Caged Ogres - want to tame them!
« on: August 13, 2010, 11:54:10 am »

So I embarked in a region, that is sinisiter, if I remember correctly. This means ogres, werewolves, harpyes and other funstuff knocking at my door regularly.

I used the exotic tag remover from the modding section, hoping for hordes of nasty creatures that guard my front door.
So now here we are after year one, having lost 14 dwarves to the "nature", but 8 are still alive, so no problem here.
I managed to capture 4 ogres in cagetraps and....I can't tame them :(

Is there any way that I can make them tameable? Even if this means modding, I want them on a leash in front of my fortress! That's the reason, why I embarked in this awful region. ARRRR!

Maybe try http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Cheating#Pets_for_everyone ?

edit: It says you need to worldgen so ??? maybe try just modding the raws in the save dir? GoodLuck.  Werewolf guard dogs sounds awesome.

Oh no, please tell me, that there is a way to do this in my already existing world.

I have fought so hard to survive in this world and it is actually going uphill since the last migrant wave :(

That's why I embarked in that sinister land!
But I want the fun to protect me from other fun! That would be kind of....fun xD

As it is getting late here in Japan, I will try to add the PET and COMMON_DOMESTIC tag to werewolves and ogres. If it works without creating a new world, I will let you know.
If not, then I will add these tags to EVERYTHING!

Can you say pet-elf on a leash? :D

Don't forget to add TRAINABLE as well, if you want to be able to train 'war' variants of said creatures.

Even if it works without generating a new world, you need to edit the raws inside the save folder (assuming 0.31.x) to affect an already generated world.

THAT is the information I needed! I edited it in the savegame raw....and there you go! I can select them in the Kennel.

Ooooohh... I can't wait to have them trained and running after a Dwarf as a pet :D

/edit
It works! Now I have 1 werewolf and 4 ogres guarding my front door. Should be quite safe for now ;)

Yes this is VERY yes to do, go into the RAW files for your world, and then find the orges in the list.
then simply add:

[PET]
[PET_VALUE=200]

(the pet value number can be anything, thats just how much they are worth.)

into the orges file. i just did the same thing with sasquatches i thought might be fun to tame/breed for food :D

It worked perfectly for me.

EDIT: After re-reviewing this i noticed this idea has been posted sorry!! I just thought that it might be better to lay it out more...
