Gutanoth - You've done no weaponsmithing yet, I'll have to schedule your squad some time off for that. I want to wait for migrants before I mess with the schedule so that I can add another squad and have a constant rotating shift of guards.

Was the reason for the fort not for artifacts to use? That GCSS cap could very well save the soldier who will beat the siege's life.

Mainly just that I thought it would be amusing.

The in-story justification for it is that the artifacts might be magical and so they have to be kept safe until the Overlord decides what to do with them.

So I'm at the head of the military directly at the moment? oh, what joys I shall have...

From what I hear about Master Axebane, the fortress cripple, He seems to have got a strange idea stuck into his head that we are some dolls for him to play dress up with. gold gilding on armour indeed... Does he not know that gold, as a useless but shiney metal is obviously a symbol of opulence and nobility. The message should be simple to anyone who would try and oppose us. We are the Legion of Terror. they should learn to fear our skill alone. But I do agree on him on two points, albeit slightly modified. the symbol of the overlord should be recognised, but that it is us who is slaying them. The second point is that we need armour that covers all of our bodies, for as much as I like my shoulders clad in leather, steel or even bronze would be better, as I would like them to stay there.
...
DAMN THIS COLD! WHERE IS THE SECOND SQUAD I DEMANDED!

A chain mail shirt must follow to protect the arms. Then Greaves, Breastplates, Gauntlets, Boots, and Helmets can follow.

And this is all from  the time I spent in the military. All from that one battle, seeing my squadmate's arm tore off because he lacked shoulder protection.

A good steel set of armor for everyone would be perfect protection. But it must have chain mail torso armor underlay."

...

Note I said Chainmail to protect arms and shoulders...

Chainmail counts as armour, no?
I recognised that.
I just made mention of the shoulders as someone got theirs hacked, didn't they?
Is there something I'm missing?

This has been an amusing read well done fort boss guy.
If possible, I would like to be dorf'd.
Name him/her Mook and make her/him a Scout, basically a light armour wearing bowdorf, he/she basically just patrols about the outside of the fort looking out for any sort of mischief heading your way and upon finding it will guide the nearest squad of Axe types to it so they can give it a chopping.

Just dropping in to mention how fascinated I am by this story. I'll be watching for updates with much eagerness.

(and I'd be honored if my first forum dorfing was via this story, if you end up with room. "Alteffeight" is a fine name, male gender, the rest is up to you)

looking through the cellblock rules, I just noticed that if the dungeon master isn't going to be too pleased with your positioning if he brings them along

I will not locate a base in a volcano, cave, or any other location where it would be ridiculously easy to bypass security by rapelling down from above.

Chainmail is the best armor that actually covers shoulders. Breastplate doesn't, leather does but is lesser to mail. Mail shirt has sleeves. Breastplate doesnt.

tl;dr: Chainmail protects shoulders.

oh. fair enough.were you suggesting the use of chainmail mainly for their shoulder protective properties? (sorry, just getting a little confused as to what you were meaning  ???)

I geuss that would work, but it would seem a bit suspicious, having a flat mountaintopwhere there used to be a volcano on the maps. but by that point they would know theres a base here, they would just be trying to enter secretly.

Geb, are you using any mods on this or is it just vanilla with graphics?

Yeah. My suggestion for uniform:

Head:
Plexiglas helmet
Dyed Blue Cave Spider Silk Hood

Upper Body:
Steel Chainmail Shirt
Steel Plate Breastplate
Dyed Blue Cave Spider Silk Cloak
Dyed Blue Cave Spider Silk Robe

Hands
Steel Mail Gauntlets
Dyed Blue Cave Spider Silk Mittens

Lower Body
Dyed Blue Cave Spider Silk Trousers
Steel Greaves

Feet
Dyed Blue Cave Spider Silk Socks
Steel High Boots

Other:

Lay Pewter Flask
Leather Quiver
Leather Backpack

I also propose a special all-female espionage unit with just this uniform:
Dyed Red Cave Spider Silk Toga
Dyed Red Cave Spider Silk Thong
Leather Skirt (Short)

Oh, and a crossbow. I wonder how that could've sliped....

EDIT: Need robes. Protect the face and neck.
EDIT2: Added quivers/backpacks/flasks
EDIT3: Took quiver off spy uniform. Crossbow come with a bolt, which should be all they need.

I like this uniform actually. If we weren't in a freezing wasteland i'd have picked red dye on the general uniform and green dye for the espionage unit so then blue could be for the fortress guard(since we can't have black), but dyes other than blue are hard to get hold of, so yah.
