Laboratory Records of Zaerosz Caughtdiamond
Patient Treatment Records of the Month of MoonstoneCaptain Ghaz IreheartPaperwork, paperwork, paperwork! Do they not know how the natural philosophies proceed? One man alone must learn before he reveals his work others. None of the great men of history shared their glory! And yet... the activities of the fortress have provided five subjects on which to make my studies... I shall keep these records as they demand, but none shall see them. My work is my own.
Initial examination of the first subject reveals only a flesh wound grazing bone. The captain may yet be of some value as leader of the dungeon bodyguard, even if I must first find some way to make those damn masons build my prison.
Second examination and procedure: The patient reports feeling no pain during my initial cleaning and on further testing appears to have lost all sensation and control of the limb. Extremely disappointing. There is no value in this work if the nerve is severed. I shall leave this subject to the orderlies.
Legionary Lorbam RidergemsI knew somebody had lost a leg, I found one inside the throat of that frilled monster they hauled up from the cave. One mystery is solved, with a trivial and obvious answer. This patients case is uninteresting. Nothing to do save for waiting as the stump seals. The leg makes an excellent addition to the bone stocks however. There is good to be found in all.
Legionary Logem BudmineBurned skin with cave mud, an interesting combination in usual circumstances, and yet it seems the heat has seared the mud clean. Severe skin damage, perhaps needing reopening if the scars can be made to grow in tension...
Minion IstasA fall from height, shattering the bones of three limbs and breaking a fourth cleanly to penetrate the skin, bruising to the head and liver, shards of obsidian embedded in the skin and lower tissue layers... this will be a moderately diverting challenge.
A constant stream of excuses hampers my work! The constant bleeding of the miner's wounds renders detailed work impossible. I cannot see through this grit and gore obscuring the gift of anatomy presented to me. I must have water! The patient must be cleaned that I may examine him properly! My demands are simple, yet do a recieve water? No! I recieve complaints and whining of trolls in the cavern. Those fool surgeons in the mountainhomes would no doubt be interested, they look to nature for their ideas not their intellects. Pathetic. Where is my water!
Second examination. I have been provided with a bucket of cave mud, barely easier to see through than the blood... it seems to be the best available. Lieutenant Tannen has removed the troll... more bones for my corpse pile... The miners wounds are as interesting as they initially appear. I must operate...
Further excuses and whining set me to idleness. The minions speak of duty as a pretext to ignoring my needs... If the bones are to be set I must have the correct equipment! Fourth subject reports extreme pain and offers violence upon treatment, making work difficult. He must be restrained... greater pain can be inflicted and useful work be done if the subject cannot move... yet the mechanics do not understand these facts! They dedicate all their time to making some kind of metal box out in the wastes. Fools and liars! I hear that the supply wagons bring us splints though... this is good. Good...
Minion ImpThe second miner has crippled herself trying to complete the job that subject four was working on. Something to do with clearing protruding rock from a cliff face... the injuries caused by the fall are distinctive. A mixture of angle-edged bruises from the bricks of the wall and shards of mine spoil. A trivial set of broken fingers on one hand and an interesting section of torn flesh on the leg...
Second examination. Both miners have been cleaned again by the orderlies in the cave-filth they call water, making more demands on my time. Subjects four and five display an inability to move even when not restrained, partial consciousness, sweat and discoloured skin. It seems I must clean them myself as I am the only one with the basic competence to perform this simple task. Miners must be returned to work if I am to have my laboratory expanded...
Gutanoth has been dwarfed:
not quite what you asked for since I'm working with limited number of dwarfs here. Only female soldiers remain for now, and a mask won't be possible, it being against Rule 1.
McFreud also turned out female:
