Just where is this stuff in the status screen?

I can't seem to find out how much of it I have, and I fear of running out.

It's under bars, I think.

Alternatively, ask Interpol.

(sorry, I had to)

Might get some from your dwarven dealers every November. Meet in a dark ally and bring cash.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

It occurs to me that I might not be finding it because I haven't yet had my bookkeeper tally everything up.

I've got an office setup for him, complete with chair and table, how do I tell him to make some records?

Assuming that the office has been assigned to him, go to the nobles screen, scroll to the bookkeeper and press 's'. It will bring a screen up where you can choose how precise you want the records. The more precison the longer it takes to get there.

On a related note, its usually a good idea to forbid at least one unit of coke, just in case you end up running yourself out of it on accident. No need if you have wood or magma, but a great idea if you're purely using coal.

Yep learned that lesson too.  Forbid it as soon as it comes out so its still in the workshop.  Like having a birthdaycake hidden under your bed you forget about it until you really need it.

Oh god, that would stink.  Why do you want miasma in your bedroom?

What is this, a therapy session? We don't need to console someone because they're upset about a fucking video game. Grow a beard, son, and take off those elf ears!

I create two separate bar/block stockpiles.

One is for regular bars and blocks, the other is for fuel and nothing else.

This way I can easily tell at a glance to see how full or empty my coal bunkers are.
