Adventure mode campfires.
« on: August 12, 2010, 03:15:49 pm »

As it stands, you're very vulnerable to enemys when you sleep in the wilderness. I was thinking, you could craft a campfire, it would set down on your current location and any agressive but not mythical creatures [ie. cougars, lions, bears, wolves, etc.] would stay away from the fire, so you could safely sleep in the wilderness. It would also be a nice aesthetic addition.

It seems like we would want a [NO_FEAR_OF_FIRE] tag to nonintellegent creatures for monsters that won't be dissuaded from your campfire. For intellegent creatures, it should be implied.

In other words campfire keeps bears wolves and the like out, maybe even scare away some animal men, but perhaps baboons or gnomes wouldn't be bothered by your fire and would come ransack your camp....which brings to mind that you should be able to throw some food at an advancing bear which will make it easy to escape while its contently distracted by the -hoary marmot roast- you threw its way.

but in night time a fire can be seen for a long way off so other smarter enemys may come.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Unofficial slogan of Bay 12 Games.

It's already very strongly implied for dwarves, they're not even afraid of it when their clothing is on fire. :)

I choose to think that dwarves just don't believe in fire. Like something they tell their kids to keep them in line. like "you better eat your plump helmet or the fire will get you!"

There are campfires in the game.

Set a tree on fire and go to sleep. The fire contains itself for the 8 hours.
