An interesting sidenote is that all of those top countries listed are also the homes of the cultures that gave us the Scandinavian/Norse mythological basis for the dwarves featured in Dwarf Fortress.  And, of course, all of the others like Australia, the US, New Zealand and Canada were all settled by people from those regions that brought that culture with them (not to mention Tolkien was from the UK).  A mystery in that case is why Germany isn't also featured on that list along with the cultures it influenced.

Whether that's just coincidence, I don't know, but it is interesting.

Even though I am a mutt like most others that live in the US, I especially cherish my Finnish ancestry (1/4th! woo!), and it is probably to blame for my deep love of Dwarf Fortress. The only other people I know brave/crazy enough to play DF have Finnish ancestry, too. Strange.

Just a note: Finns are obsessed with computer games. Just take a look at the various FPS gaming communities [multiplayer], like CS or CS:S. The number of Finnish gamers is superdwarvenly huge.

Be careful, you're mixing your excessively violent and suicidally bleak gaming settings.  In DF, it's 7 alcoholic squats against an unforgiving world, psychotic clowns and an uncaring and fickle player.  In 40K, it's uncounted billions with an unforgiving and uncaring god-emperor (well, mostly his priests and bureaucrats) against psychotic and fickle xenos, heretics and traitors.  Granted, the characters are doomed in both settings, but you need to keep the wild-eyed zealotry in the correct game... 

edit: The elves in both settings deserve to die slow-ish.  Also note that the 40K universe couldn't handle the dwarfs, and they were expunged...
