firstly, I'd like to apologize for taking so long to reply. I've been disconnected from the internet for quite some time.
I do have an idea, that I've expanded on quite a bit the last few months.
Something I'd like to mention though is that I'm not sure I'm cut out to be an author. I think that to be a satisfactory quality author, one needs quite a bit experience in reading. I simply do not have a great roster of books that I've actually read, and I have no desire to read a lot of books, nor any desire to force myself.
What I've been thinking is that I wanted to learn how to draw, because I'm actually much closer in mind and heart to the visual aspect of storytelling. If I learned how to draw, then I could create something comic or manga style, and I think I'd enjoy that much more. First though, I need to acquire a drawing tablet, since I think the digital medium would be much more cost efficient and allow me more freedom. It'd be pretty cool to be the next Fault around here, I think.
Anyway, my next idea goes as thus:
The story is about hard boiled detective Franco Kogel, who exists in a world where extremely lifelike robots (called "Assistants", as that was their original intended function) are prevalent in society. For all intents and purposes, an Assistant in indistinguishable from a human, except for having preprogrammed personalities and no biological aspects.
Franco, and his Assistant given to him by his brother Rick, Angela. He's a self-employed detective, solving crimes and catching criminals, until one day he discovers an odd crime: A series of murders performed by a very clearly illegally modified Assistant. The inner workings of Assistants are heinously complex, and so it is an extremely expensive and time-consuming process to even lightly modify one, let alone override their programmed restrictions against violence, and make them sturdy and strong enough to actually harm a human being, so it is clearly the work of some secret organization with enough money to actually do something like this, and Franco determines himself to get to the bottom of it.
Shortly thereafter, Franco is contacted by a mysterious agent, with information on the organization. In short, what ensues is Franco's traveling from place to place, finding out that the organization is attempting to create Assistants that are actually lifelike spies, that can flawlessly impersonate important people and penetrate any society or government seamlessly, control things from behind the scenes, or assassinate anyone that goes against the organization.
Franco eventually penetrates the HQ of the organization, which triggers Angela to turn on him, as she is actually one of the Assistant spies, who's entire purpose was to monitor Franco and make sure he doesn't get anywhere near the organization. Franco manages to destroy Angela, and discovers that his brother, whom he hadn't seen in years, has been imprisoned by the organization as the genius responsible for creating all the Assistant assassins and spies, including Angela.
It's revealed that Franco is actually a perfect robot, who is meant to act as an artificial proxy for the real Franco, who died years ago. Rick had obsessed about saving his brother, and managed to preserve his memories via artificial means, and then when he died, he spent years building the perfect robot, one that completely mimics a human's biology, can feel emotions and learn, and one that mirrored his brother's image almost exactly, and then gave it his stored memories.
The very end of the story is where Franco goes to the site that his real, human self is buried, and disinters his skeleton. This is where he comes to grips with the realization and instead of waxing on and philosophizing on the repercussions of being a machine carrying the memories of a dead man, he takes a gold watch that he had been buried with, that had been given to him by his father, knowing it to be his.
I hope that was a fairly good summation. I also want to get back to the one story I told everyone about in the past, with the giant Tower and the magic people that scale it and kill eachother in the process.
