Starcorp RTD-Killed. Go home. Scram. Away with you.
« on: August 10, 2010, 09:53:49 am »

The year is 4207 CE, and the USEC is at it's weakest, and most corrupt. Jobs are regularly sourced to companies, corners are cut, and bribes are freely accepted. The dual star system E-12342 is set to sweep through large fields of asteroids and clouds of gases. Due to the wealth that these raw materials provide, the space station Austin-Ega was set up in latice point 5, and four companies were contracted to collect these materials. In time, E-12342, or as it would later be known, Clondice, would become the greatest producer of raw materials in the USEC, providing 0.002% of raw materials for the upcoming war effort. But that is in the future. For now, four companies have started with humble beginnings at E-12342.

Company History: Founded by a federation of formerly independant miners, extractors, and shippers, united to contest larger corporations, who were beginning to muscle them out of formerly free space. Westar is known to be fiercely combative and territorial because of that, much like their emblem-a black boar with tusks down, preparing to charge. -Westar origin was made, interestingly enough, when two indy spacers collided, each racing to be the first to a space dock, and avoiding a hefty mooring fee imposed by the local ruling congolmerate-a few thrown punches, and a few drinks later, the 2 spacers decided to found Westar together. They were married a year later.

Ship types: (More will arrive later)

EN-42: $60 000
Armour: 6
Equipment slots: 1
TINY: (+10% to dodge, -5% to hit.)
Description: The EN-42 is a mass produced, cheap ship, with a crew of three. It is highly popular, as it has very little mass, allowing it to be moved at very high speeds very cheaply. Many corporations use it when speed is in order. The EN-42 is also known as the 'ant', as space ports have large numbers of EN-42 docked, many owned by the space guard, and private individuals who wanted to experience flying a spaceship.

EN-42L: $75 000
Armour: 7
Equipment slots: 2
TINY: (+10% to dodge, -5% to hit.)
Description: The EN-42L is an improvement to the basic EN-42 design. While still operated by a crew of three, it has an increased equipment bay, improving it usefulness. The additions were made will small changes to the mass of the ship, still making it cheap to move. The only real problem is the slight increase in cost.

MOD-02, 2C: $180 000
Armour: 12
Equipment slots: 4
SMALL: (+5% to dodge)
Description: The MOD-02 was designed as a space ship with interchangable compartments, allowing it to quickly fullfill several jobs by interchanging compartments. In reality, the time and effort that must be put into changing compartments means that this is rarely, if ever, done. This version of the MOD-02 has two compartments.

MOD-02, 3C: $220 000
Armour: 16
Equipment slots: 6
SMALL: (+5% to dodge)
Description: The MOD-02 was designed as a space ship with interchangable compartments, allowing it to quickly fullfill several jobs by interchanging compartments. In reality, the time and effort that must be put into changing compartments means that this is rarely, if ever, done. This version of the MOD-02 has three compartments.

'Girder': $150 000
Armour: 10
Equipment slots: 6
SMALL: (+5% to dodge)
EXPOSED (+1 to critial hits taken on this ship.)
Description: The 'Girder' is a generic name for a ship made out of bits and piece, held together with the girder from which it gets its name. Commonly found in early spaceports, before larger, more effective transports are found, the 'Girder' transports goods around. A known problem with 'Girders' in general is that the propulsion systems are exposed, or under a thin layer of armour. 'Girders' with conventional propulsion systems often blow up when hit, and 'Girders' with light sails are often stranded when attacked.

s-Cg: $245 000
Armour: 12
Equipment slots: 8
SMALL: (+5% to dodge)
Description: The s-Cg was designed to fill a perceived size gap between different lines of ships. It is otherwise unremarkable, being cheaply and conservatively made.

"Protector" Mk II: $305 000
Armour: 18
Equipment slots: 2
SMALL: (+5% to dodge)
BUILT-IN EQUIPMENT: (Comes with a free minigun turret, small missile bay (Arrow) and two machinegun turrets)
Description: The "Protector Mk II is a small, lightly armoured ship with several built-in weapons, decreasing the overall cost of the ship, while increasing the amount of room available. It is not the best ship for combat, but it can deal with minor threats, such as modified civilain vehicles, and are amoung the first dedicated combat ships in a colony.

Equipment:

Prospecting equipment: $10 000
1 slot.
Description: A ship with prospecting equipment will tell you how much ore or gas is in a hex. Helps you to effectively plan your resource extractions, and prevents you from embarrassingly finding out that their's no ore/gas left.

Important note about movement:
Multiple ships can be on a hex. Space, after all, is big.

If end your turn mining a resource field, you automatically move with that resource field.

Hexs:

Space station: The Austin-Ega is at L5. When you move a space ship into that hex, any gases or ores in that ship will be transfered into the spacestation, to be sold. You can also repair a spaceship (Costs $1 000 for each point of armour.) The blue circle around the Austin-Ega is a safe zone. Any ships inside the circle that attack other ships will be seized, and the company that owns it will be fined. While attacking ships one hex outside of the safe zone is fine, this can cause the safe zone to expand. (Unless you make a little donation, if you know what I mean.)

Stars: The two large white circles are the stars  E-12342. The red circle around them is the star's event horizon. Any ships inside the circle is considered lost, and is removed from play, unless that ship has an (illegal) teleportantion system, or warp drive, in which case it will escape, but could be seized on sight.

Asteriod field: The hex with the white blobs. Always contains ore, and may contain gas.

Gas cloud: The purple hex. Always contains gas, and may contain ore.

USEC Container-ships:

Every ten turns, the USEC will send container-ships to the Austin-Ega. The container-ships contain needed resources for the spacestation, and may carry (Or allow to carry) new equipment, ship types etc. The container-ships will buy all resources at the spacestation. This is the only way in the early game to gain cash. However, as time goes on, other, less legal ways will be found. The turn after the container-ships arrive is when any new spaceships arrive into play.

Purchasing New Ships:

It's simple, merely say that you want to buy a new ship, and complete the following form.

Name of ship: (Needed. Must be different from other ships, for identification purposes.)
Captain's name: (If you want, only for flavour.)
Type of ship:
Equipment: (List all equipment that will be on the ship. Equipment can be changed latter. Don't feel that you have to fill all equipment slots.)
Cost; (It would be nice.)

You recieve the ship after the USEC container-ships leave, hopefully offering you enough money to purchase your ship.

Buying/Selling Equipment:

You can move equipment on or off a spaceship when it is docked at a space station.  Moving equipment on and off a space-ship takes one full turn. Once equipment is stored in a spacestation, it can be sold. Equipment is sold at 100% of its cost, as I'm sure some other company will want it. Selling equipment increases the chances of a non-player company from appearing. You can buy equipment at a spacestation, even if there is no spaceship docked. The equipment merely goes into storage. You buy equipment at 100% of its cost.

Ooh, GM'ing a new game Usec? Count me in.

Company Name: Westar Intergalactic

Company History: Founded by a federation of formerly independant miners, extractors, and shippers, united to contest larger corporations, who were beginning to muscle them out of formerly free space. Westar is known to be fiercely combative and territorial because of that, much like their emblem-a black boar with tusks down, preparing to charge. Their numbers are thin, but Westar pilots consider themselves the best of the best.

Fun Facts!
-Westar Pilots are often called "starhogs"-it's a term of respect!

-Thought the company has been investigated for shady business practices multiple times, no charges have been filed. Ever.

I can't tell you how amazingly close this is to ideas I have in the future.

EDIT: Forgot to have background post. Meh. Advanced rules will just have to go with the regular rules.

Right. Everyone gets $300 000 to spend on ships. Also, you can ask me to clarify rules/make suggestions for equipments/ship.

PSI would like to order the following ships, and has noted captains worth piloting them.

Name of ship:  Ad Mortis Nos Bibendum (if my top-of-the-head latin checks out it should be something like: To death we must drink... approximately... might be piglatinish on the grammar side.)
Captain's name: Ted the Automaton
Type of ship: Girder (100k)
Equipment:
Level 5 engine (50k)
2x light vacuum (30k)
1x Prospector (10k)
Cost; 190.000

Name of ship: Lasius Flavus (a species of ant, i thought it quite appropriate)
Captain's name: Bill Beardlacking (wage: 0$)
Type of ship: EN-42(ant)  (60k)
Equipment:
Level 5 engine (30k)
Tiny Canister (15k)
Cost; 105.000
Total cost: 295.000

I am sure Captains Bill and Ted will serve me well.
If not, i'm sure they'll have some sort of adventure at least.

Riddle me this Usec.

1. Can we collect resources and move on the same turn?
2. Will we face danger to our ships *other* than fellow players? Like NPC pirates/disgruntled indys gaurding resources?
3. If I don't buy prospecting equipment, does that hamper my collection in any way, other than being surprised when one is empty?
4. How many turns are we going to do at once? Doing it one at a time would be....lol
