Okay, in the past couple days, I've been mulling on an idea for an RTD and sort of brainstorming about it. I've played enough RTDs to know the basics of how they work, but not sure on the rules on like when to roll for what (besides dodging), and so it would be my first time GMng an RTD. Although I have this summer math class which is making me pretty busy with homework, it will be finished a week from today. Then I have a bunch of other future stuff coming up, so just how much free time I'll have (compared to now) is uncertain.

Anyways, heres my idea, its inspired in part by Wolfchilds RTD and the idea of there being lots of demigods from the Percy and the lightning thief movie (the only thing taken from that movie is the demi-gods idea):

It takes place in a post apocalyptic type world (yes I know, we have tons of those already), with a mix of magic and technology. However, those with the ability to use magic are the many who are the children (or grandchildren, and so on) of the gods, goddesses, and various demons who now walk the Earth. I don't mean just the greek/roman gods and goddesses, every pantheon that ever existed is walking the Earth. Japanese, Mesopotamian, Mesoamerican, various Native American groups (with some dieties being common to many cultures), Polynesian, African, you name the culture, the pantheon is there. Even the collective God of Christians, Muslims, and Jews is technically there. However, I don't want to deal with the creator dieties (God, father of Jesus, included) simply because it would be too ambiguous. Technology wise, almost everything electronic is now defunct. Some stuff with electronics which could be re-rigged to work are around, but some places are at an industrial revolution level, other places are pre-industrial level, even going back to hunter-gatherers.

The fun part here is that you can choose any god or goddess (maybe demon, but not sure about that part, depends on the culture/pantheon) and choose the powers you want, which are based off of the diety of choice. I was thinking of having a side effect of bieng the son/daughter of some dieties in that your appearance would be based on a dice roll to an extent, however I'm not sure how popular that idea would be and I can easily scrap it if people would rather just do it themselves.

I'm not sure how I would start it or whether there will be some goal behind the whole thing, or maybe just make it up as I go along.

Well, depending on what powers you choose for being the son/daughter of satan, yea.

Regarding the creator gods, I may reconsider not allowing those, depending on the powers that people want to use if they choose a creator god. However, there are so many to choose from that it shouldn't be an issue.

Some 'creator' type gods sacrificed themselves (Ymr of Norse mythology for example), so they would be unavailable, others like Raven in some Native American mythologies, aren't quite all powerful. It will depend on the mythology and I want people to try to do at least a little research, but if someone wants to pick a well known diety instead of a more exotic/obscure one, fine with me.

Ooh, definitely interested. I even already know the goddess I'd pick.

How do the different pantheons treat eachother? (Ie, are they actively fighting eachother or all friends or what?)

Hrm, I hadn't considered that. It was just an idea that I had thought about but hadn't fleshed it out or anything. Like I said, I haven't GMed a role playing or RTD game before.

I also had the idea of there being various monsters (from various mythologies) that you could be a child of (even with the choice of having a god/goddess and a monster/demon as parents), but decided to scrap that part since it was starting to get more complex than I wanted it to with that idea in, at least with the appearance idea I had in, so I may reintroduce the idea. There will still be monsters/demons of course.

There is one thought that I've had that would solve the pantheon conflict issue. The pantheons would have their own home regions (for those from smaller cultures or crossing many cultures, that can be muddier), but they can freely roam. There would be some groups that don't like each other very much, others actively hostile, others allies, some are mutual friends. I don't have the details down as I wanted to gauge interest first.

Curious: How would Shinto fit in (where virtually anything can be a kami/youkai)?

@Dwarfguy: Depends. Which ones do you have in mind?

@Hailfire: I'll look into that later today as I have class soon.

I so want to take part in this RTD. ;)

Count me in, if you start it!

I would either be a son of Moloch or Odin.. Probably Moloch.

I'm definately intrested in joining, and i'd join as a decendant of Coyote, the native american trickster spirit

You really can both sig it.
But... That would break the laws of sigging! We can't have everyone running around with the same quotes. IT MAKES THEM UNFUNNY FASTER!

What about fantasy gods, like say Kilmorph or Tali from FFH?

I like that idea :)

I would also like to join as a descendant of Hephaestus, Greek god of technology, blacksmiths, craftsmen, and fire.(He was also a cripple).

Now I remember something else that I had thought of, besides the appearance part, I had also thought of having mutants (post-apocalyptic type, not X-Men) with some sort of mutation thing, but it was looking complicated and the various monsters and demons can fill that in nicely, and possibly as NPCs. Also, if the god you choose has multiple arms for example, you can make your character have multiple arms. As for Hephaestus, I had actually used that as an example of the appearance roll thing in my mind, but I've decided not to force it on people, unless alot of people want to. BTW, your character doesn't need to be a cripple and besides, Hephaestus got crippled from Hera throwing him off of the top of Olympus, so he wasn't born crippled.

What about fantasy gods, like say Kilmorph or Tali from FFH?

No fantasy gods, sorry, It'll have to be from real mythologies. I am a fan of Civ 4 and have played Fall From Heaven, so I know what you're talking about. There should be some earth type gods and air type gods around that you could use.

I'm definately intrested in joining, and i'd join as a decendant of Coyote, the native american trickster spirit

Cool, not quite sure what powers you would have since Coyote has a variety of powers. I think there was one story where he took himself apart and reassembled himself so he could hide in a hole, but Coyote is a shapeshifter in most places and of course, a trickster.
