as for games in the series to play, Super and Prime 1 are benchmarks of my video gaming lifetime. The rest range from good to meh.

I still consider Prime 1 the best FPS ever made, and nobody can change that opinion.

Super Metroid I have on the virtual console but never beat.
That game kicks my ass.

I'm not sure I'd go quite that far, I have had fun with friends on Halo and Borderlands, HL2 is good...

It's not like those games though (or any other FPS I've played for that matter), IMO you can't fairly compare them.

Thought: Prime isn't an FPS, it's a FPM (first-person metroidvania) :)

It's in first person, and you mostly interact with things by shooting at them. :P

Prime 3 had the Best Control Scheme Ever, but Prime 1 had better map design. More exploration. More backtracking. It felt more like a metroid game. Well, apart from the Prime trilogy I've only played Super Metroid, but I hope that represents the series pretty well.

Man, Shinesparking was so awesome. Other M involves 2D platforming sections, you say? Do you think it's going to bring back shinesparking?

DUDE.  Metroid needs to do the full-on Castlevania thing, and have a normal ending, and then this freaky upside-down version of the world where you can re-explore things in different ways and get 200% completion, and it lets them put in freaky horrifyingly hard puzzles because you're not even supposed to know it exists in the first place.

You can never have enough Ridley.

Man, I loved the Ridley fights in Zero Mission/Super Metroid. Both of them just come down to who has the bigger (metaphorical, since Samus is a woman and Ridley is a space dragon) balls.

I've only ever played the Metroid Prime 1-3 (yeah, yeah, not playing a 2D Metroid crosses the Moral Event Horizon, I know.). Sadly, I was too young and unskilled to finish Primes 1 and 2 (I really should get on that, in retrospect.) However, I did finish Prime 3, and what I did play of the Prime games was some of the best gameplay I have found in a long time. The massive ammounts of information you could peice together with the scan visor, or just ignore if you didn't care made it awesome.

That said, I don't have high hopes for Other M. It seems to be a major downstep graphically from Corruption, and while graphics do not make a game, I don't like seeing a series backpedel in any area. Furthermore, it just looks to be all action and no story. While the early Metroid games were able to pull off minimal story (or so I am told) the Prime series has left me craving for a game where your scans reveal details as Samus would recognize them, and leaving the player to peice together events and implications. That alone was a large selling factor for me, after I saw only a small part of what Prime did with it. I recall in Echoes
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I just don't get the feeling Other M will have experiances like that.

If you like that sort of storytelling (I know I do) you might enjoy BioShock (not sure about the second...)

It's not quite the same (you're gathering audio tapes as opposed to textual log scans), and the story could be considered better or worse, depending on just what you prefer.

I haven't... been meaning to... currently have a fair few games I haven't played though...

After a quick skim of the wikipedia page, it sounds like Deus Ex, which I have played some of, but got a bit bored with.
