According to http://www.metroid-database.com it is the official European box art. I haven't seen the US art anywhere yet...

Meh, it looks okay, I suppose it may be a bit crappy no offence, I think it looks like some sex crazed horny person running around shooting people and then getting raped, maybe... whatever it is, I think it looks uninteresting :P ^_^' Sorry for the criticism >_<
you've just had too much porn. Metroid is awesome.
Metroid is awesome. His assessment is still accurate about the character design in Metroid games.

Ars Technica article on it.

Quote
The game is played entirely with the Wii remote—we were told there are no other controller options. When in third-person, this means that you're holding the controller on its side, NES style, and moving Samus with the d-pad. In order to change over to first person you have to switch to holding the remote in one hand and pointing it at the screen.

The controls sound clunky as hell, though I suppose that goes along with the Wii... :/

I hope we get some contra style button smashing.  And some contra style throwing-remote-at-screen smashing.  Damn you base level!

The controls do sound a tad odd...

Has anyone played Super Paper Mario? Most of the game was fairly standard side-scrolling platforming (with a paper-themed gimmick or two of course), but you could point the remote at the screen and "click" an enemy (maybe other objects too, I forget) for info. Not something you do all the time granted, and I think it did pause the action when you did it, but I don't recall it feeling particularly awkward.

I thought the wii controls for the prime games felt great. Switching between first and third person is rarely a feature I like though.

Only ever played the original versions of Prime and Echoes, but Corruption was nice :) I liked the little pull-turn-push bits, it's a small thing, and a bit of a gimmick really, but it contributes to immersion IMO.

The Wii's motion controls have soooo much potential for awesome... I've yet to see anything that really takes advantage of it :( then again, the last Wii game I got was SSBB, that came out what, a year and a half ago?

I played red steel (the first one) wasn't terrible, but wasn't particularly great either.

I've heard the motion+ thing is a huge upgrade (usually described as what it sould've been in the first place), but I haven't tried it yet. The new Zelda (skyward sword) looks to be pretty cool.

Which game should we start Roo out on, do you think...  Zero Mission?  Or maybe Super Metroid?  Because clearly he is in need of an education, and some culture.  Metroid is one of those defining games.  There's a reason that there's a genre called "Metroidvania"--and yeah, the other half of that is the Castlevania games, but Metroid is Metroid and that's good.

(Aren't there in-browser Java or Flash based SNES emulators now?)

Super. And I hope he's got a gamepad ;) I can get you all you need (software-wise) if you're interested Roo.

I started with Prime actually, then Echoes, then Fusion on GBA.

I'd go with zero, super, fusion and then all the wii stuff. I've played through zero, then went on to playing fusion, gave up in the middle, and now I'm running through super. I've never played any of the fancy 3D wii games, but I'm hoping to change this with other M.
