Overkill power generator
« on: August 07, 2010, 08:09:14 pm »

Recently, I have begun construction of a huge perpetual motion device, which is easily expandable. The first line theoretically generates 9933 net power, with each additional line adding 10681. Screenshots sometime (hopefully) soon.

My question is, what are your designs, and how much power do you generate/use?

I created two wavechambers that generate a net 2100 power. I think I need to expand.

The problem becomes finding something to use that power for.

Automatic ballista, anyone?

Simply put, my design is to just make a large, snaking river one tile wide.  I hook up about 100 waterwheels to them in ten rows of ten.  At one end, there's a screw pump that forces water up a tile, and then lets it fall back down in a channel leading back to the start of the waterwheel channels.

You can use it for all kinds of crazy stuff if you look up the mechanics page.  Go ahead and make yourself a four-function calculator using 50,000 power and tens of thousands of axles and gears and other parts.

I've set it up so I can just reroute water from my water feature in the Dining room to an automatic drain feature, so I can keep it running all the time.

My new goal is to build an auto repeater so that I don't have to manually assign the activation of the various stages of activation.

I'll observe that the more power generating/consuming items you have, the more lag there is... SOmething about them having to calculate every frame for whether they're active and have enough power.

which explains why the calculator projects lag horrifically. I avoid lag issues by simply deactivating a large part of my power grid when I don't need it running.

Oh?  I thought it was just the fluids that powered them that were laggy.

It's both as, not only does the game have to keep track of water movement, it also has to check each frame per water wheel to see if it is above flowing water and has power.

Good to know. I'll have to add floodgates, should I expand the design.
