Best Game Soundtracks?
« on: August 07, 2010, 10:34:51 am »

In your opinion, what are the best games (or series) for musical enjoyment?

I'm currently listening to the soundtracks from Silent Hill 3, 4, Origins, and Homecoming. SH music is always dependably interesting and listen-able (I tend to zone out to it while coding or doing other online activities).

Age of Empires 2

But most of all, the Timesplitters series. Nothing can compete.

As in game music that's nice to listen to outside of the game itself?

Arcanum if you like classical music.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed if you like techno (or whatever this qualifies as).

Some of Daggerfall's tracks are pleasant to listen to. And there are fan-made "modernized" versions out there as well.

Also, Red Alert 2 music.

Can't really think of much else. Good game music generally complements the game rather than serves as good music outside the game.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

This. I've yet to see a game where a single song out of its soundtrack spreads all over the place, it's also one of the only game songs I listen to frequently. I also love final fantasy IV's soundtrack, brilliant.

TA and Supreme Commander have epic soundtracks. I love the switch from peaceful music to epic battle music. I wish more games had music like that.

Try Dreamfall (Or the Longest Journey) for some of the best ambients that you will ever hear.
Apart from that: STILL ALIVE!
And I await the Portal 2 soundtrack with trepidation, the trailers are sounding very good.

I hear if you combine them with dwarven syrup you can make rhesus pieces.
