Tree Growth
« on: August 07, 2010, 07:58:17 am »

Hey, just a quick question. I searched and I couldn't find anything on this.
Are the growth times of trees adjustable?
I know of plants [GROWDUR:X] tag, but I've played around with it and it seems to have no effect on trees, but it could be merely where I placed it.

Thanks.

I have not seen this as adjustable (nor have i really tried)

Perhaps add [GROWDUR:X] to the raws of the trees or sapplings and see what happens?

What did you change the duration to be? This page gives details on the scale.

for testing set it to a really low number (or on par with plump helmets or something else that grows reasonably fast) and see if you have tons of trees popping up...or clear cut a specific area and loot at in a season or so later to see what is there...

[GROWDUR:] does not affect trees. Removing [SAPLING] allows it to act like the underground trees in it's growth cycle (aka "young Tower-cap" quickly turns into "Tower-cap"). Saplings grow slower.

I thought that SAPLING simply made it label as a Sapling, instead of Young.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

I was under the same impression...in fact I am fairly certain at this point that tree growth is a hard coded thing...

It does. But "young" trees grow differently (I think). Tower-caps seem to grow within a month on soil, while Ashes grow in a year on mud+soil. I might be mistaken, though.

Thanks for the replies, I've added the tag to all trees in different positions, all with [GROWDUR:30], so they should all grow within the same timeframe as a plump helmet, but they never seem to. I was worried that they were hardcoded, and I guess they are.

Try [SAPLING]. It makes the tree "young Tower-cap", which SHOULD (at least my not-so-extensive-tests) make them grow quicker.

It's hard coded. And just for reference, Plump helmet growdur is 300
