i checked IP too, IP is the same. one of the first things to check since it happened several times in the past.

the link you posted gives odd results. it says the port is closed, except when i actually try to host. if i check at the time it says that the port is open.

i'll try messing with router..

edit: everything i do changes nothing.when I am not trying to host on WC3, the link you sent me says that my port is closed. and i tried everything i could think of.

thanks for the help anyway.

edit: I am using a bot to host now. if anyone wants to play, I am soon hosting american colonization in northrend and US east. I am 50th in queue, so it will take 10-20 minutes before game is hosted.
The link I posted is not giving odd results.
That's exactly the result I expected, actually.
When you're not hosting, the router is redirecting all connections to that port to the IP it is set to in the router settings, but there's no computer there, because your internal IP has changed.
When you ARE hosting, a tunnel is forced through the router's firewall, which allows that site's script to get through, but not the actual game client.
I can't explain why that happens, but there's that.
Sockets are a wondrously wonky thing when you have a dynamic IP, internally or externally, intentionally or not.
That result essentially tells me that your computer's current LAN IP is not what you set the port to forward to, despite what you're telling me yourself.

Hey guys. Let me get you all inside information on something special in W3

There's a little inside group called RPers. They play games like SotdRP (Secrets of the Depths Role Play).

Before you point to games like Eclipse RPG, or something like that, allow me to point out something that you must understand.

There are RPGs and RPs, both crucially different.  Rpgs give you a guy and tell you to go kill the world. RPs give you nothing but the tools to create a world.

RP Synopsis: you are given a blank map (usually with terrain) and the tools required to build that map into something great (whatever you want!). It doesn't require as much skill as making the map itself, and it allows you to make dynamic builds to "RP" with.  More on RPing later.  You can scale objects to hundreds of times their size, modify existing units (pimp my peon, only for everything), build armies, cities, countries. Then clash with your opponents.

"RP" ~ Role Playing Synopsis: As a player in an RP, there is no goal. You build and have fun. Much like Dwarf Fortress, there are no ways to win. But many fine demises waiting for you. In this open environment, the goal is to have fun.  A cornerstone of RPing is actual role playing, in which you act out whatever character(s) you have. You interact with other players a lot.

Another way it is like dwarf fortress is that it is fairly difficult to get into. The host will probably boot any super-noobs. And if you start, rest assured you will be a super noob.

However, RPing is rewarding, fun, and if your good at it, it will stroke your pride. When people say your construction is orgasmically good, you feel like you've accomplished something. And if you like to RP, feel free to role play.

Why, you can even role play a group of seven dwarfs setting out into the wilderness to build a new colony. Its been done (and its fun, believe me... fun)

Now, in my amazing kindness (read: desperateness to get more players in the RP community) I will make a super-duper-noober-guide for newcomers to the amazingness that is RP.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Truthfully, this game doesn't have a lot to teach, only a lot to learn. I suggest giving it a try. You learn a lot fast.

I've loved RP maps and played them for a few years, but recently they become not so fun for me. Mainly because there're no rules.

If you could make rules it would be more fun... They either lack depth and details good rpg map can give you, or you have a feeling that something is wrong when you have to roleplay "get these 50 coins for this armor... oh wait, it costs 55 so I can't buy it".

Another problem is other players. If I would like to rp a man who kills wolves to get and tan hides to sell them to buy a sword, it may be nice... But then some player comes and says "I am the 19th incarnation of the god of death and I have immortal spirit" and fulls his inventory with +stat items for no reason... It really breaks the immersion. It's almost impossible to find players which do not do something stupid or selfish, and nobody imposes restrictions on themselves.

The third problem is, of course, the situation when you build your empire/town/whatever for 3 hours and then everyone suddenly decides to quit/is dropped due to BNet bug/has something to do and you basically wasted lots of time on nothing.

To sum it up:
I had a few satisfying RP games, but I had 10 times more failed ones, so with my current time schedule (work/university/son/wife) I try to find games where I can quickly get action or save my progress, so I tend to avoid RP maps which require 2-5 hours to play normally.

ya there's one I really liked, but cops got added to it, and they had super speed teleporting vehicals that can capture you and hold you for the whole game, made role-playing an evil creature or a villian absolutely no fun...

I don't like RP maps unless it's with friends. They work well if you are playing with friends, but random people ends bad.

These are the maps I like (all require frozen throne):
Goblin Exploration Squad (Particularly tribes mode)

11th Vampire (Mentioned by Grakelin earlier)

Cruiser Command

Zerg Infestation

Space Rogues

I've also made a few maps of my own, nothing popular though.

Haven't played in months, since I didn't have a working mouse.

I don't like RP maps at all. They're a dying breed, what with the elitist prick who made them (came into a game of mine once thinking he was hot because he helped or something; a map that has basic spawn controls isn't that hard to program) and the elitist pricks who play them (because not letting people download is a surefire way to keep people interested in it).

Goblin Exploration Squad kinda reminded me of Island Trolls/other survival maps, but it put alot of emphasis on having to work as a team. It was interesting from what I remember, but I haven't played it in ages and it doesn't get hosted often. I don't like Island Troll Tribes because most of it involves knowing which rigged combination  that isn't listed to use, while getting a bunch of meat and levels then being able to solo the enemy team (who are likely noobs).

My favorite one of the genre is Jungle Troll Tribes, where each person was really required to work together in a semi-realistic survival fashion, with each of the four roles able to build general things, as well as other objects specific to their class. It was really in depth as far as a survival game, and really fun to play once you got past the minor learning curve.

Zerg Infestation is another good one. It's Parasite ( who's the killer type game) but a bit more accessible to normal people (those who don't want to spend time slogging through twenty different suits, magic immune, debuff removers, etc). It also seems to get hosted and updated fairly often, which is rare in most maps these days.
