So i had a squad of soldires all with battle axes and full sets of iron plate armor and on my first invasion my entire army was wiped in seconds without even wounding a single enemy.....  can some one possibly tell me what i did wrong... i worked hard on that fortress and im a little peeved that it was destroyed so effortlessly...

goblins. though im not sure what they where wearing.  all i know is that my full plate dwarfs where kia in seconds.

they all had melee weapons. swords and such.

Maybe but i expected that it would be atleast a little better than cloth.  anyway what about my battle axes doing no dmg?

The iron can't penetrate the bronze and so deflects off any bronze or higher gear they were wearing.  But there should have been at least one lucky shot in there on unarmored heads/arms/legs somewhere.

Axes are quite strong did you train your men? I think 1 legendary everything can probably beat something close to 20 untrained dwarfs. Put this dwarf into full adamantine and put him against unarmored untrained he can beat even more.

lol.   ok so it all came down to metals and training.  does that count for bolt heads?  cus i think archers are the key to surviving a seige.

You should set up some traps. Even a row or two of stonefalls can be a factor.
You could also try to battle in a place where your dwarves won't try to engage all the enemy squads at once.

try testing weapons in real life youll see what i mean :D
