That sounds much more dwarfy, but we are getting off topic...

It seems we do not have any more takers on a legitimate attempt to conquer hell. Those who read this and have free time, I question your dwarfdom! What could be a more dwarfy display of military powerness than to eradicate the foul hordes that have been the bane of all dwarf-kind for ages! We cannot mine as deep as we like due to these demons, and I say it is about time to put them in their place. Raise your armies, breed the animals of battle and build the engines of war. The remains of hell shall have their place upon the walls of the great halls!

Pave the sky. Collapse that.

Well, if you try that, keep in mind that I can't get a stockpile to work in HFS.  I keep getting "inaccessable" job cancellation spam.  So you have to build it from above.  Removing the stairwell, paving some more floor where the stairs were, and then collapsing the whole thing might be tricky.

I haven't even tried building non-constructions down in HFS, hang on...  Oh, no wait, I did manage to make a butcher's workshop, so that I could reduce a little lag by eliminating some extra animals.  It's definitely been working, I'm flooded in "struck down" spam more than anything but job cancelation.

Keep in mind I haven't really succeeded, even by cheating, yet.  If walling off HFS only makes them appear in the skies above somehow, then the only way to win is literally by just sitting there and waiting for your units to kill billions of demons that appear two at a time.  That's pretty much impossible outside of fast-breeding superpets like what I have.

I'm trying it. My fort just started steel production due to a fey armorer (gold breastplate) so I'll be good once I get a weaponsmith of decent skill. After that, training time with naked goblin prisoners and training axes. Then, adamantine axes and shields, steel armor. Once I have fifty legendary axedwarves, I will breach and slay. A one-tile choke point will force the demonic pace to a trickle, where they will be beset by dwarven steel and holy adamant. Then, I will conquer.

Atta boy! Though I caution you to wait for the cheating method's proof of concept tests to finish, as you'll need a way to end the spawns eventually...

My method will be to station military at the spawn points. It won't stop them, and they won't enter the map pre-killed, but it won't take long.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath.  I have to designate walls and stairs 10 at a time, and I'm in a 4x4 embark, and only check in every 2 hours or so.  I might get done this month if I hurry.

My method will be to station military at the spawn points. It won't stop them, and they won't enter the map pre-killed, but it won't take long.

This is pretty much what I'm doing.  "Stationing" fuzzy death critters at their spawnpoints through designating meeting points works wonders.

Oh look, I just got attacked by my first kobold ambush.  in order to get at my valuable "stack of crap that was in the wagon I never bothered to make a stockpile for", they have to wade over the body of the forgotten beast that attacked my lone expedition leader, as well as the bodies of all the local wildlife, many of which were apparently killed by the unarmed dwarf knocking them 50 tiles away bare-handed.

Make my day.

Please, please, please say your megadorfs can punch one kobold through another.  It'll be like bowling, only with less screaming.

I haven't seen that happen yet... mostly because I don't watch it actually happening, I just leave the game and come back to read announcements or look at the bloodstains later.

What's really funny, though, is that at SPEED:0, dwarves can send enemies flying, then catch up to their flying bodies and punch them again, then chase after it and punch it again...

Must...not...

"Ready your breakfast and eat hearty, dwarves!  For tonight, we dine in HELL!"

Lead me not into temptation.  I can find it just fine on my own.

If you accidentally lock the elves in the depot and wait until they're insane to capture them in cages and then lock the next group of elves in the depot and unleash the insane elves from their cages, that's still somehow your fault.

Interesting.  To make it impossible to wall off?  Dunno about the rest of you but one of the basic assumptions I make with every fort i build is that they cant do that.
