Gather the remains and build statues or something.

I solved the problem by raw-editing my puppies to fly.  That took care of the problem.

Anyway, I'm starting to think something kinda silly/weird is going on, here.  I looked at it in confusion before, but dismissed it and didn't think to much of it, but I had some Elk Bird corpses down in HFS at the top of one section of wall, where my puppies ripped its head off.

I'm thinking that maybe if I DO succeed in walling off HFS, then they're just going to have some kind of odd spawning bug, and come out of the caverns, instead.  I'm afraid that if I wall off the caverns, they'll start coming across the surface, where I can't build a wall around the entire surface, blocking all enterance.

You could always use raised drawbridges to seal off the map edges.

I just had a dastardly though.. How bad would it be for one to completely collapse hell's ceiling?

I'm not sure, but it may be made of slade. If so, you can't mine it to cave it in.

I think it is obvious what is to be done next.

It's made of molten rock.  You can't do anything to it, and it cannot be collapsed.  In fact, I think it's set to always be "supporting", since the only thing below it on the top is magma, and below, it's an entire z-level of nothing but air (and clowns).  The molten rock is not supported by anything, so you can't remove its support.

Mod it so it is collapsible, then collapse.

It's supposedly held up off-map, since hell goes across the whole world.

xeivous - SMR is hard-coded.

NW_Kohaku: you can dig stairs in it, provided the SMR tile is unrevealed when dug (so dig them from below - you're in the right spot to do that)

Ahh, but theoretically, if you collapsed hell's entire ceiling all at once, what would happen to the above ground?

It would stay supported. The edge and bottom of the map serve as anchor points.

Well that leaves little hope for destroying everything on the surface by causing it to collapse...
