You forgot Urist McNietzschean fighting himself as a prelude to Project Mayhem and pushing the reset button on the world economy.

I don't think that removing a lot of parts will make your adventurer stronger. Remember that an attack randomply picks a part of the body. This means that if you remove most of your body parts you are more likely to get hit on vital organs

The vital organs that are safely sitting under a +steel mail shirt+, +steel breastplate+ and fifty -dog leather cloaks-? That sounds stronger to me.

Now that's thinking like a dwarf...

I imagine that sometimes, demons would have trouble distinguishing dwarves from other demons if this sort of thing caught on, with dwarves systematically peeling off their skin and organs in ways that let them survive but have less tissues to damage (who needs a spleen, anyway!) until they were walking meaty skeletons.

Exactly! Combine this with the (admittedly silly) prosthetics system suggested in another thread and you basically end up with Urist McStark. Complete with alcohol dependence.

I, too, support this, if only because I want to ritually scar myself each time I kill a civ leader.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking of ritual scarring.

And or Billy-esque chest cuts to challenge a forgotton beast to single combat.

I support this, but only if Toady also adds in the ability to attack a specific bodypart (on enemies as well)... Imagine the fun of carefully dissecting your enemies piece by piece (making sure they don't bleed to death of course).

Or just the ability to stop your characters from doing stupid things, especially when they wrestle, like repeatedly grabbing a body part and then letting go of it...

You do know you can use the [c]ombat preferences button to just switch auto-wrestling off?

But cutting someone apart piece by piece is more fun!

This would also allow for the safe amputation of parts (in adventurer mode or otherwise) that cannot be protected by armor. Urist McAxelord doesn't really need his toes or cheeks, and they can cause bleeding in battle. Better to preemptively remove them one by one.

(edited for clarity)

I don't think "safe amputation" is really a viable thing using medieval technology (except maybe small things like teeth and toes), although in rare cases it might be preferable to whatever else is going on with the part to be amputated. Also, how the hell do you amputate a cheek?

This is probably why we shouldn't have barber's shops or something similar. Construct it out of 1 chair, 1 axe.

Yes, small things, like teeth and toes. The few, small, things that are left uncovered by the best armor. You know, exactly the point of my post. :P

Also, if one severs the toe neatly, then cauterizes it, bleeding should be minimal, as the arteries spasm if severed neatly and the cauterization seals the wound for good.

As for amputating the cheeks? Very carefully. Preferably employing a mildly psychotic dwarf (all of them, but the Hammerer especially).

Imagine a combination of power goals 44 and 45: The ruler convenes a council of the nobles to appoint you the high priest of the nearby towns. Instead of waiting for them to finish their drinking session, you walk in and crush a goblet while berating their disgusting behaviour and general incompetence.
