Ability to attack yourself
« on: August 05, 2010, 05:48:41 pm »

I know this idea sounds just strange but think of the possibilities!

Urist McHungry severing his own arm to eat.

Urist Mcinfected amputating his own foot to survive.

Urist McMelencholy commiting suicide in the militery by getting his crossbow and shooting himself.

Urist Mcadventurer Commiting suicide after being caught by elves.

Urist Mcpirate gouging his own eye.

it would have alot of strange possibilities, In adv mode you get a list of what body part to atack.

Oh no! That wolf just tore your sword out of your hand!
It's not like you can beat it up with your shield...
Just break off your arm!

Well this could be quite funny but we should also have the option to ampute wounded dwarfs in fort mode.

The ability for melancholy dwarfs to have all new ways of suicide and urist mcinfectedpoorbastards to have limbs amputated sounds great.

Amputating limbs would only make sense if it actually would help with something - currently, removing a limb would probably wind up causing more bleeding than it stops.  Of course, this might theoretically be a solution to a badly infected wound, but there needs to be a way to easily staunch the bleeding right after it is done.

I bet magma would stop the bleeding.

Apply directly to the wound.

Well heavy infections happen quite a lot. So getting rid of those is usefull it would also work as a reinjure effect.

along with getting your arm being bit by an enemy on the base of a cliff and you at the top, if you can't break it's grip and it can't shake you then chop chop.

That too is another possability, or if "bear traps" or the ability for a creature to get body parts stuck under boulders, they could try and amputate it.

I envision failed-mood emo dwarfs walking around with badly cut arms.  8)

I support this.

I, too, support this, if only because I want to ritually scar myself each time I kill a civ leader.

This would also allow for the safe amputation of parts (in adventurer mode or otherwise) that cannot be protected by armor. Urist McAxelord doesn't really need his toes or cheeks, and they can cause bleeding in battle. Better to preemptively remove them one by one.

Now that's thinking like a dwarf...

I imagine that sometimes, demons would have trouble distinguishing dwarves from other demons if this sort of thing caught on, with dwarves systematically peeling off their skin and organs in ways that let them survive but have less tissues to damage (who needs a spleen, anyway!) until they were walking meaty skeletons.

I don't think that removing a lot of parts will make your adventurer stronger. Remember that an attack randomply picks a part of the body. This means that if you remove most of your body parts you are more likely to get hit on vital organs
