Okay ore? Srsly? We are never going to be able to smelt that. If you want to go down that rout look for clay first.
Can't hurt to gather it, we can't guarantee we will be able to access it all the time, besides, what do we lose from gathering it?

How do you suggest we gather it? unless it is lose nuggets it will take hours or day to get a useful quantity

As we now see it is food time.

*Sigh* Guys, we need something better then these mere rocks, and I doubt ceramics are tougher then metal (or rocks, for that matter). We can't go on hacking with these stone tools forever. Though I suppose we can wait. Just don't wait too long.

Look for berries. And eat them.

OMG SO MANY POSTZ

yes, save long term plans for LATER
Depends on how far away "Long term" is. How do you know that gathering metal ore (pretty rocks, if you need another, more caveman-like reason) is going to be long term? Smelting may be long term, but gathering anything isn't.

How do you suggest we gather it? unless it is lose nuggets it will take hours or day to get a useful quantity
*Sigh* Yes loose nuggets, how else would we gather it?

We did for 15000 years. I don't think taking it too fast is a good idea.

I don't think us talking to each other is helping this poor little guy. What's your name, little buddy?

Fine, fine, you win, use stone tools forever then. Just don't come crying to me when you need metal tools.

Stuff to him is in bold :) and I think use discussing is probably better than 100s of random orders.

We did for 15000 years. I don't think taking it too fast is a good idea.

Metal is good, but food, water, shelter is better short term :)
Once we have a supply of those I'm happy to support your mining goal.

You really think it will be that easy?

It is going to be generations or more before we are ready for that.

Look around for berries or fruit, also keep an eye open for animal tracks.

Also see how far and straight we can throw that simple spear
There are plenty of berry bushes neerby, so you pick a few and eat them without making any special note on their properties, but the bush had nice flowers and some thorns on it, oh and you have thorns stuck in your fingers now...

For God's sake, HUNTING! It could be a liger! Follow those tracks, and if the thing that they lead you to doesn't look like you, shove a sharp thing in it and drag it back to your cave.
You follow the tracks for a bit, and run into a small animal den lots of small white things with big ears scamper away, you throw your spear at one... AMAZINGLY you hit it behind the head and it stops dead, mostly, it shivers and shakes constantly, you whack the head off with your ax.

I don't think us talking to each other is helping this poor little guy. What's your name, little buddy?
The voice asked a question? Uhm... you think to yourself but the voices intervene...

Evaluated Wounds
 - Cut finger (less bleeding, still hurts like hell)
 - Slightly burnt hand
 - Thorns in a few of your fingers
 - Your stumoch hurts a little bit after hunting that rabbit...

The bright glowing thing in the sky is directly above you...

What shall you do next?

I really shouldn't have said his name was Bob...

Oops. :P

Bring the rabbit back to our cave, then find a sharp rock and remove the skin.

Grab that thing. Time to go home. You've got your dinner. Where's the sky orb?

but we have: http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2009/04/15/time-travel-cheatshe.html

Bring the rabbit back to our cave, then find a sharp rock and remove the skin.

And a stick to skewer it on that we can rest against the rocks and let the meat slowly cook.

edit: Remove the thorns from our fingers while we wait for it to cook.

You head back home and instead of knapping ANOTHER rock, you simply use your ax, the skin is ruined but you completely remove the skin from the rabbit.

I Am thE skY Orb.

When you hear this, you immediately freak out! you drop the rabbit on the ground next to the fire and run into the woods!

Go back, get a stick to skewer the rabbit on that we can rest against the rocks and let the meat slowly cook.

Remove the thorns from our fingers while we wait for it to cook.
