Edit: Question, how far down are the caverns? I don't really want to break them yet, but I need more room for... stuff. Like an arena for my 30 or so captured goblins (Why hello thar, siege! Oo, a Jabberer for my zoo) to train my military. The lowest level I've dug so far is 124 by the number on the bottom right of the screen.

Well if you start from the ground floor (Brooks Top, one were the Caravans were.) Its 43z to the bottom of the first cavern, this cavern is only in the North Half of the map, so if you carved out from the soil side down south near the Pipe then look northwards around that level with the top being something like 46z...

Can i still join?

Of course! That's the good thing about this challenge, people can come and go (and have breaks) as they wish. ^^

And thanks for the info about the caverns - It's nice to know I have room to expand.

Mind you, my trees aren't growing back... so I may have to break into them eventually to get more wood. The elves didn't show up this year, I think they're annoyed that goblins killed their diplomat...

So Ledi's been training the cats into an army of disposable warbeasts?  Why did no-one think of this sooner?!
Hellcannon seemed to be constantly on the verge of death and Levergedon before my turn helped, but ultimately what killed it was Ledi's cat army.

Bit confused about this. I normally RageRestart my start due to a Sap growing from no where as I am halfway throw carving down a mountain side. And that's AFTER my Woodcutter has long passed that area with his axe...

Also Almost all the trees that I had cut down or even in places were the mountain was soil and is now flat have trees growing, so don't know whats wrong with you, that and trees are sprouting in the caverns neatly, I think I would have a good supply when I finally start building the city down there.... After I finished the dome...

OH and with the Statue thing, Do they have to pass the Statues on the way IN or can there be one on the way out. See I have two spirals to the Caverns and with some clever work I will be making them both one way (in and out) and I was planning on using the guts of the spiral to build something like an Obelisk or so in the middle (ALL 30z Levels of and of Pure stone (which will look funky)...

There has been three already...

You have 2 years of setting up
after that
1 Year to make an Aboveground Garden (open to interpretation (Hint, Sunlight must be shining onto those squares)
1 Year to make a Safety Bunker with enough supply to care for 3-7 Dwarves + 1 Pick
1 Year to make minimum of 6 Statues to display to Caravans near or leading to the Trade depot...

As long as the traders pass them somewhere. Mine are in the corners of my trade depot room. ^^

The one-way spirals sound nifty. I have just one central spiral ramp, once I got used to building them they're not all that hard - it took me a long time to change from the central 3x3 staircase of doom.

I use Quick Fort to save time drawing out my damnable Ramps, they are ones that go down each level quickly and have a neat spiral. Its a 4z Spiral that forms a complete circle when it comes around for a second run...
Would you like a copy???

The anticlockwise one is a bit weird, its not resting proper and you need to move the cursor up one space before restarting the spiral...

Aye, if they're not growing back... mine aren't either. Could you post the reaction here when you've done it, for everyone else who isn't having any trees grow?

I'd usually give it a few years, but 5 years in the trees I cut down when I arrived still haven't grown...

Since you appear to be accepting late enrolments, can I also join in? (I've finally worked out how to make the savegame use my preferred tileset).

Additionally, & just a suggestion, Considering both that Trees are normally an essentially infinite (if slow) resource whilst Stone (with the exception of Obisdian) isn't, whereas Stone is infamous for it's FPS hit (does this apply to trees?), maybe the reaction to produce logs should use otherwise useless Animal byproducts? (since animals take a while to mature).

Alternately, for late starters like myself, would it be acceptable to start with an adjusted world gen & an additional rule? (World gen modified to 1629 embark points from year 51, New Rule: The extra 329pts must be spent on the 1 Iron Anvil, 2 Bronze Picks, & 3 Logs that you'd have got from the previous suicide squad?)

Also, is there a specification on which civ participants must originate from that I have missed in my reading of this thread?

Final Questions: If you dig down to the caverns, & Muddy them, will fungal trees start spawning in the reclaimed version? If so, maybe that should be the 4th Challenge (Build a Tree Farm, Have a stockpile of N logs on specified date?).

Edit: NB, Brilliant Embark Ledi, no often how often I ditch my forts (on rerolled worlds) to try other locations, I just keep coming back to it, which is why I want join the challenge, I'm hoping that by taking on the obligation I'll force myself to play a fort until I experience FUN, not just fun.

Personally, I wouldn't mind using the Remains > Coke one, though you can't edit that into a running game can you...

Why??? The download gives that there automatically...

As far as I can tell, nope. Though it makes things weird when its a King not a Queen that leads your Civ, pretend that he is in Drag more so then normal for Dwarves (Men wearing dresses not uncommon if people remember)

I'll be checking that shortly, but it might take some time due to needing of GOOD walls to protect the builders of my dome, though it should be tomorrow when I get back to it... -_-;

To avoid the sapling/mud problems apparently associated with Reclaims, & the difficulty you mention of adding a reaction post-embark???

I suppose I should've realised that Urist McScotsmans surname always being McWhatever indicated Scots heritage.

The main reason I asked that one is because it somewhat reduces the need for a custom reaction or the exemption from the save I asked for.

I have had a bunch of mud sitting around in the caverns for a couple years now, and not even a plump helmet grows there. It seems it has the same problem as the above ground trees do.

Wood shouldnt realy be in such big demand with all the magma sitting around though. I even replaced all my wood barrels with brass ones just because my bar stockpile was full.

Edit: I might be the only one having difficulty with the last request, more then a hundred goblins and their law-giver goat-man suddenly want me dead. Proabably due to me racking up too much fortress wealth.

I haven't noticed a problem with trees, I think I've still got some saplings and I know I've gotten some full grown trees in the lowland recently, but fertility in general has been a problem for some people. I haven't cracked the caverns yet to see if I'm mudless.

I do have humans sieging me, just because one of their trade reps popped up dead last year. Not my fault, I swear, he just appeared and died! But so far all they've done is kill some dogs, which will help my FPS (already dipping below 20 and bound to get worse). My butchers are having trouble keeping up with the animalsplosion. Nothing to do with trees, but clearly the animals are having no problem reproducing.
