I like my build because if I need to I can buy better armor. But I'm probably going for a better shield next round. I'm fine with a silver sword. In adventure mode swordsman take a long time to battle, but usually after 1 or two strikes the enemy can't do anything with a broken lung or heart.

I'm planning on probably getting either some king of shield, or adamatine armor. Because I know you all want a dodgy elf to get adamatine armor.

According to a bunch of testing from the SA thread shield material doesn't affect how well it blocks.

Just thought I'd pass that on.

Orly? shield material has no effect whatsoever? that means i can save massive cash on that 120-costing bronze shield!

Well, I just ran my new guy vs yours three times and you lost all of the matches. I don't think testing is really going to be to relevent considering DF combat is really all about landing the first debilitating strike.

edit: I hope this didn't come off sounding hostile.

Name: Jeckotrad
Race: Kobold

-Bronze short sword
-Oak buckler
-Copper helm
-Copper mail shirt
-Leather leggings
-Leather high boots
-Talented dodging
-Adequate armour
-Competent in:
        Fighting
        Swords
        Shields

Remaining points- 2.5

While I've probably spread this character a bit thin, he still should be decent at everything which could give him an edge over the specialists.

Edit- Removed striker and used the points to level up dodging.
Edit2- Changed some stuff after testing.

and not always, look at stuff from the SA thread like eagleyed prick round 2

and strange guy, striking only helps with bear handed so you might want to change it

Ran some tests of nil omshit vs. Pike-armed minotaur.
most started like this:
one or the other strikes at opponent
SHOT IS BLOCKED!
minotaur collides with dwarf
dwarf tumbles and falls
minotaur hacks off some limb

Many collisions were had, all dorfs tumbled at some point.

Minotaurs won all out of 7 fights (setups sticking when spawning units is nice for doing multiple simultaneous tests)
they then proceeded to kill eachother, as i made them all independant.

I'm pretty sure that the larger creature will always attempt to charge the smaller one, I think that's just how DF combat AI works.

People that made little dudes need to keep this in mind. If they can't dodge/counterstrike on the charge, they are gonna keep getting rammed into until they die. Dodging seems to be the most important skill in size mismatch fights.
