Steam-Powered Goblin Cannon?
« on: August 02, 2010, 12:11:21 pm »

Does this work?  Is steam this thoroughly implemented?  I just found a spectacular starting spot in which wouldn't be too hard to set this up, volcano with a river and the bulk of the map above ground is solid rock.  Guess I'll find out soon enough!

In case the pic isn't viewable, basically a shaft with magma at the bottom, a chute/floodgate that drops water on the magma as desired, and a grate over that into which you channel goblins.

I doubt that you can get a goblin cannon out of this. They will either just burn up in the magma or splatter on impact on obsidian.

Is steam pressurised? I don't think it is.

Make a steamroom and have the goblin's slowly turn to prunes.

what would you plan to hit? It would take exact timing to get it to go straight up and hit something, if it's even possible.

It's not possible.  Unless it's changed recently, steam isn't even dangerous (except for sapping your FPS and obscuring everything)

You all did not read properly. The goblins are keept on grates. No timing required, no splattering on obsidian.

AFAIK, steam is purely ornamental at the moment. It never pushed things around, although it used to scald creatures in previous versions.

It would be a single-shot weapon anyway, as the magma would turn into obsidian when the water hit it.

Then it can't work. No steamed goblin.

No no, I have a volcano :) I can refil the magma on demand (in theory anyway).

In theory, if you keep refreshing the magma, have a river of water, and a way to keep the goblin in there, you could steam it to death.

It would not, however, ever go shooting upwards.  He would slowly die in a very relaxed state, but never go launching upwards.  Your dreams of a steam-powered goblin firework will never pass.

I will give you points if you mod in Goblin Meat and steam the goblin to death, then eat it.

What if you made a water slide and sent goblins down it into a volcano?

Dang, I was hoping steam pressure would blow it into the air.  That's a pity.  Parboiled is just as dead as shot-out-of-a-cannon but not nearly as funny.  Maybe something to hope for in the future :)

what you can do is make a magma canon and a water canon next to it. that way obsidian will form on top off your enemies.

w=wall
M=magma source
ps=pumpstack
x=hatch
that's a magma canon in the same way you can make a water cannon. Remember not to shut of the pumpstack if you want to keep the magma going.
If the volcano is above you you can also make it into

wxw -w
w---- w
wwww
<P is a single pump pumping in the direction of the <, >
