Summoned monsters are, in general, pretty disappointing- they're useful, but they really need the support of the caster sticking around (to take advantage of the distraction they provide) or, as Barbarossa said, numbers.

now, Arrow hawks are pretty sweet to summon because they are flyers that keep their distance and shoot lightning and... huh

I guess I am thinking of a previous edition, because the arrow hawk is not on the Summon Monster list, it's on the Summon Nature's Ally list...

I think that summon monster still has lantern archons, and you could probably metamagic up a few more of them per casting. A colossal spider is still only a CR 11 monster, summon spells are typically intended to act as meatshields or specialists. Some of them can be good in odd situations, if you are flying for example, and some of them are divine casters, which is nice if the mage wants a cure spell, but as far as total damage done goes you are pretty much always better off with a direct damaging spell, something like a fireball or wail of the banshee. The spider, for example, was pretty good, but only had the one attack. It could reasonably be expected to actually do some damage to a high-level opponent, but was never really going to wipe out the party.

It was only intended to delay. I would have been shocked if it had wiped the party out (although the poison nearly did kill Cerrad with one attack!)

I think that the only lethal stat damage is constitution, the others are just mental or physical induced helplessness. Of course, it can then murder them in their sleep... Ability drain on the other hand, while not directly lethal except for strength, typically has lethal side-effects...

You're correct. Of course, a mission-kill would be nearly as bad.

Aye, reducing strength to one or zero would lower his carrying capacity to the point where he couldn't lift anything to take off, and just remain pinned to the ground.

Reducing strength to 0 means that you can't move your muscles, and you're paralyzed and helpless. Unless you have Silent Spell and Still Spell, or maybe if you're using psionics...

Or if you have a spell active that you can maintain and direct mentally, like Telekinesis...

Ok, to clarify: Friday sessions will not resume for two weeks. I may be able to run a session on one or both of the next two Sundays, but there will be limited warning for either, and this next session will have huge plot consequenses (Gods will live and die based on your actions) and I will want (nearly) everyone there.

If I catch your notice for a Sunday session, I'll do my best to be there.

I'm open for a Sunday session, but I may or may not be partially distracted by my Sunday Eberron games.

Can I get a guesstimate as to what time on Sunday the session is to be at? Because I'm gonna want to get some boxing day shopping done.

Sorry I havent made any of the sessions recently, its the holidays. And as much as they suck, I am forced to be around family and whatnot.
Sundays? Sounds alright, so long as things dont get too hectic.

Interesting.

If this is the case, we need to work on planning our actions in advance.  The goal, obviously, is to kill Ficus and...  whatshisname.  However, that will likely prove to backfire, unless someone can come up with a good plan for killing two people who, if I recall, are far more powerful than we are.

The other thing we want is TO PROTECT THE GODS.  Bad things will happen if we don't.  This means that we may have to make some sacrifices.  Certain people might have to stay behind to buy time for others.  We just have to decide WHO if it should come to that.  If not, we need to at least figure a few things out before hand, and pray that we can actually outsmart these guys.
