Speaking of backup characters, I'm looking at a class I've been interested in trying that's in the Complete Divine book.  Would I be OK in using material from that book?

The class in question is called the Spirit Shaman, it's a spontaneous casting divine caster that uses the Druid spell list and can swap out his spell list when he meditates to regain spells- subsequently, the number of spells available at any given time is less than a sorcerer, but the spell list can be tailored to which might be needed in a given day.  TBH, I'd probably pick one load out and stick with it unless something specific comes up (like, you know, people dying and needing rezzes)  The class abilities aside from the spell casting revolve around communing with spirits, and the fluff of the casting is that when a spirit shaman meditates to regain spells he is communing with local spirits and requesting the spell power from them.

In game terms, Spirits refer to incorporeal undead, fey, elementals, and anything that has the spirit subtype.* (*This subtype references the Oriental Adventures and Unapproachable East supplements, and is not found on any core monsters that I am aware of.)

So, it's a druid without the shape shifting or most of the nature based abilities(wild empathy being the exception), a penchant for ghosts, and a minor split personality.

Are you cool with Warforged* as a race for a backup character? What about Giant Anthropomorphic Squid**? Centaur? Lizardfolk?

Heh, yeah, you have to remember to make fun of the S.S.s imaginary friend. Also I recall them having a moderately snazzy raise dead ability, might be worth a once-over to be sure their abilities aren't a problem...

Now that you mention it, I don't think so.

I regret to inform you, your familiar has suffered a critical existence failure, all it left you was an overactive imagination and a few convenient class abilities...

ah, you mean this:

Quote
Recall Spirit (Sp): At 11th level, a spirit shaman gains the
ability to call back the spirit of a dead creature before the
spirit of the deceased has completely left the body. Once per
week, she can reconnect a spirit to its body, restoring life to a
recently deceased creature. The ability must be used within
1 round of the victim’s death. This ability functions like raise
dead, except that the raised creature receives no level loss, no
Constitution loss, and no loss of spells. The creature is only
restored to –1 hit points (but is stabilized).

Funny, I missed that when I was going over the class powers.

I also just noticed that Spirit Shaman is also a class that splits spell casting between two ability scores; wisdom for spells per day and max spell level, and charisma for spell strength(save DCs). Most of the class abilities are keyed to Charisma as well.

If you want to make backup characters with those races/classes, I'll need to see the relevant pages of the relevant books.

EDIT: I am updating to version 76 of maptool. All players will need to update as well.

Would PMing you the text be fine?  If not, do you have somewhere I could upload scans for you to look at?

You could upload them to a image hosting service, something like imgur might be ideal.

I'll go take some pictures. Was there a session on Friday?

I'd prefer to keep it to private sites if possible, considering.

That and the scans I have are not in formats that are usually accepted by image hosts.

On that note, I copied the text to a .txt file, so I could put it in a PM pretty easily at this point.

Well, does anyone know? I keep asking about the session.

Also, are there any limits on the number of possible templates, so long as I fit within the CR of the rest of the party?

It should be obvious from reading the thread that there wasn't one.

As for number of templates, there can be only one, unless you can give me a very good reason otherwise.

Well, my idea was Tauric Creature and Half-Dragon. That way I could be a half-dragon yet also be shaped sort of like one.

I know what a half-dragon is, and I'm leery about allowing it by itself.

Lord Shonus: I PMed you the class info.

I left out several paragraphs of descriptive text from the head of the entry: characteristics, background, role, etc... and I left out most of the text of wild empathy excepting where it differs from the druid ability.

I'll allow it, although I don't see the point of you posting to tell me that oyu PM'd me. The forum tells me that.
