Okay, I've made a character, though he lacks a bio. Is there a description of the world floating around anywhere on the thread?

No, but I can give you one quickly enough.

I use Google Translated text for inscriptions and such, with the specific language varying by the writer. It is currently at the very end of the year 42056.

Elves:

Dwarves are an anomoly. Because few clans fought in the Titan war, they were the largest civilized species for many centuries, but never really integrated into Imperial society. Due to a twenty-thousand year civil war, they now have only one kingdom of about a hundred million, making them the second least populous race (the elves are fewest, numbering about a hundred thousand.) It is located beneath the fabled pass of Martena Valley, which is the only way to move troops by land between the goblins and the Empires. I use Welsh to represent their language.

Thanks for the info! Two questions: what empire are the mercs currently located in, and is there a map, by any chance?

They spent the last session chatting with the Empress of Aprilia. The world map is here but has no cities on it (I'm using tokens in maptools for that.)

That link is very broken. (read: http:/// )

But yeah, we're chilling in Aprilia after fighting some goblins at sea because Cinnabar's navy was attacking at the same time as goblins. We used to adventure in Markavia, and Naren (the bard) is the count of Martena Valley.

Don't know how that happened. Fixed.

In Markavia, is licensed magic accepted by society? Or is it barely tolerated even when regulated?

It's accepted within terms of your magic liscence, which generally relates quite closely to your profession. For registered mercenaries, there's not much in the way of limits, but a tailor that casts (or even knows) fireball will not be popular, even if he avoids trouble with the authorities.

Okay. Are there any specific naming conventions for the different nationalities? And can we put NPCs as contacts, acquaintances, former coworkers, etc.?

You can. The chief naming convention is that noble houses tend to have nouny names, such as Thornhelm and Copperbottom. Commoners have no real convention.

Great! I think I have a completed character, then (assuming the backstory is acceptable).

Minor quibble. Markavia is extremely feudal, and the only Imperial troops are 5000 knights and about 1000 dragonriders. They rely on the House armies and mercenaries for most combat. The Arcane Guard would fit in quite well as a mercenary corporation or as part of the private army of a House.

Fixed. Now the Arcane Guard serves the house of an enemy of his, fitting with the reason he left.

I've completely wrecked my internet settings while trying to get things working for another game, need a couple days to get it worked out. Moving this to Sunday.
