Probably, but isn't that what the spell Shoot First, Ask Questions Later Speak with dead is for? Folk are much more willing to part with information after you remove their souls...

And so, the plot thickens. A foreign power jumps Aprilia, just as an entire village is converted to raw materials by a high-level dread necromancer! And said necromancer is a wizard we have fought before, the wizard defending the small child that someone slew a while back. Said necromancer also immobilized the entire party for a moment, almost killed the cleric, and made good mincemeat after the orc grew some extra arms and tore him asunder.

(Weren't we going to question him, though?)

He's actually a lich.

@RAM - I can do that, but it'll have to wait until I can prepare it the next morning. Though with being a lich, we'll have to do something about that phylactery if we want to keep him dead. Perhaps we can ask him about it.

(Note that he gets a will save to resist it and you can only cast speak with dead on a corpse once per week, I think. We may have to cart the corpse around for a while, and it may re-animate after the first week depending on how phylacteries work in this campaign. In some, the lich returns to its original body unless the body was destroyed. In others, the old body is destroyed and a new one must be inhabited.)

Game sunday. Speak with Dead does work on liches, but cannot be used to locate the phylactery. Liches regenerate OOTS-style at said phylactery.

Perhaps we cast Speak With Dead, Naren convinces him to call his Phylactery a city, and then Darrek casts Locate City! It's the perfect plan!

I shall be at that game, but perhaps an hour late.

I just can't guarantee anything because of how my work schedule is now.  I think it'd just make more sense for me to drop out for now.
