Well, I don't have to worry about them...in my world the dwarves apparently exterminated the elves a long, long time ago.  My engravers are fond of carving images of dwarves shooting elves and lopping off their ears during battles that happened 5,000 years ago.

That's not normal, their ethics should not allow them to use or bring you animal-based products, including blood, meat, milk, bone... anything but wooden items, plants, and creatures in cages.

And quickly, because I think that stuff would go bad pretty fast... It's like the elves kill all the butterflies in the whole world at the same time and then deliver you the barrel a day later.

Like salty coins dammit! But yeah I think your explanation makes more sense, can you work them into meals already? Couple of versions ago they were pretty worthless just filling up your food-stores

I've never seen the Elves do this.  Humans and Dwarves yes, Elves no.

You guys are silly. You just need to kill one single butterfly, and then have dozens of kittens trample its body and spread its ichor all over the area.

It is quite obvious that the humans, elves and dwarves that bring barrels of blood to your fortress are just doing what any sane people would do: They are cleaning all the contaminant from their settlements, and trying to sell the trash to the nearest fools.
