What an obscenely overcomplicated system.  No wonder they made 4e so soon after 3e.

Eh. I think 3E only becomes really complicated when you start adding in things like flying and naval combat. Land based 3E isn't that hard to grasp, at least... I know I prefer that to 4E. Meh, each to his own, I guess.

What is improved flight? Your maneuverability goes up to good?

Even water combat is not that bad, we were just over complicating things.

How does 4E handle these things?

Flying and naval combat, huh?  Good thing we don't have any of that in here.

Anyway, yeah, 3e's not bad but I prefer 4e.

I think the question is, does 4e handle these things any better?

I don't know about ship rules, but I'm pretty sure flying in 4e is just move two squares or freefall, two to move up, double move down.

Yes, though specifically it improves my maneuverability one step, It can also be taken multiple times

You really can both sig it.

There is no reason that you couldn't use a simple system like that in 3E, it just chooses to offer one that doesn't have condors making multiple 180 degree turns before vertically diving to ground level and then climbing vertically.

Well obviously you wouldn't be allowed to do ridiculous things.

That is what the rules are for anyway silly, if you were to make it so that you can not do silly things it will look like 3e.

It may be a good idea to take that twice.

Or I could just say "Don't do anything ridiculous" and decide as DM whether or not something is ridiculous.  Certainly better than having a detailed chart of what is ridiculous and what is not.

Exactly. So why not do that instead of messing around with flying rules? GM Fiat works on all editions, not just 4E. Hell, it works on just about everything; 80% of most RTDs on this forum are GM Fiat. That 80% was also just created by my own fiat. I'm sure I just used fiat in a grammatically incorrect manor in that last sentence, but I rule that I can use it that way by my own fiat.

You control the system. The system does not control you. That's the main reason I don't like 4E, because while simpler and easier to understand, it severely restricts what you can do.
