Even replacing TOWER_CAP with OAK doesn't make it go. The raws I have are all left in delivery status. This is the first modification I'm trying to make.

Just a thought... how do the files have to be encoded? DOS? Unix? UTF-8? Unicode? ASCII? With CR/LF or only LF for newlines?

My files are in ANSI.

Just to double-check, you are modifying the files in "dwarf fortress/raw/objects", yes? Not in some save folder.

Okay, just to make that clear... because I'm not sure. I definitely have both entries in the base raws (not the save raws) and regenerate again. *time goes by*

Alright. I have verified that the entries (with OAK instead of TOWER_CAP) are both in the base raws (not a save) and generated a new world. But it still doesn't work. No "create wood" in the smelter menu.

Any ideas?

Tried gettign rid of producte dimension tag? It applies only to bars I think.

EDIT: Uh, wait, I already said that. Argh!

Has no effect... Is there a limit how many reactions a workshop can handle? Otherwise I'd start thinking of creating a whole new "megaproject" workshop that would produce everything I need from pure spiritual energy (magic? huah!).

//edit:

*another 30 minutes passes by*

I've added a "Megaproject Corner Shop", now, which is straightaway capable of producing as many oak-wood logs as I like. I don't know why it isn't working with the smelter, though, as it should be the complete same principle. It's actually just another workshop... mysterious!

Anyway, it works!  :D

Try with the magma smelter. The normal smelter needs [FUEL] even when reactions are available. Or just add [FUEL], works just as well.

Doesn't really matter anymore. My Megaproject Corner Shop works like a charm. :D Thinking about adding new products to it soon.

Well, it's not the "same principle". The smelter message that displays "needs fuel!" is a reminder to not just stick a reaction without [FUEL] into the smelter. Those don't work too well.

Well, I was going to suggest, just look at my guide. I have custom workshops which house custom reactions which supply all vanilla DF trees, plants, gems, rocks, etc. Also two workshops that can train your dwarfs in any skill that you desire and yeah...

There is also a list of available products that I've posted.

The information above is on the wiki version of my guide.

Yeah, I found it only minutes ago. :) The Megaproject Corner Shop is based on your guide. It's a great help, thanks a lot!
