Posessed dwarf interrupted
« on: July 31, 2010, 05:17:20 pm »

My adept weaponsmith has been posessed! He claimed a magma forge (one of two) shortly before a pre arranged engineering project enlarged the magma reservoir beneath it, causing the power to fail, prior to pumping more magma in. When I caught up with him he had the job store item in bin, though still posessed. He just sits by this bin (containing metal bars so probably where he was getting items for his artifact), even though now the forges have power again. I tried deconstructing a forge and rebuilding it, no change. Any thoughts anyone? I don't want to lose this dwarf, I know I won't get legendary from this mood, but adept is good enough for me!

If he was interrupted in the act of making an artifact, he's permanently and irrecoverably insane.  Nothing you can do.

If he's stuck in store-item-in-bin limbo, just take away all of his hauling labors. That might achieve... something?

I imagine it went something like this- Urist McWeaponsmith gets possessed, grabs his forge, everything's good until

Urist McWeaponsmith cancels strange mood: interrupted by Dwarven Priest

The first time I had a possession I thought it meant he was possessed by demons and would hold up the workshop indefinitely, so I killed him with a cave in.

Valuing life seems too close to an aesthetic rule for me, I think.
Only in Dwarf Fortress is the value of life placed as "aesthetic."

If he's still Possessed (and flashing with a bright purple exclamation point) but doesn't have the job "Strange Mood", then there's something strange going on, since a claimed magma workshop losing power should cause the Strange Mood task to cancel and the dwarf to immediately go insane (melancholy, stark raving mad, or berserk). It might be a good idea to post a bug report if this is what happened.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
