Looking at my unit list to see if anything has vanished ...

The fortress isn't even 4 years old and I'm surprised. I've killed an entire population of crundles, an entire population of troglodyttes, an entire population of naked moledogs, two forgotten beasts, an olmman tribe, a dragon, a handful of giant eagles, a bunch of slugmen & snailmen, 4 pages worth of tame animals, 2 pages worth of goblins, 3 pages worth of dwarves (technically the goblins killed them) and A LOT of merchants.... oh and a Yeti.

This fort has been incredibly violent. I'm surprised it's still standing... but no. Nothing has disappeared from the unit list. Every single death is recorded. I would really like to be able to hide it ...

Give us the option to show/hide deceased creatures?

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

Runesmith can make creatures (including dead stuff) vanish.  If you don't abuse it, it's useful for clearing dead animals from the list.

How would this affect legends mode if one wants to look some stuff up later?

If you bury them using a coffin or create a memorial, won't they go away??

No. And filtering would be great.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I would like to see stuff change so that instad of saying EXACTLY who and what has died, I would lake to have a sort of legends transition where over time, those 50 dead goblins from the siege would clump into one sub groum-mainly, 50 goblins in blahblah of autumn 999. An I would like to see stuff like buzzard deaths disappear after a year. I mean, think about it.

"Oh hey man what is this place?"
"THIS BE STEAMBLOODS THE PRESENCE OF INSANITY"
"Wow! Did you have any major battles here?"
"AYE! IN 156 WE KILLED TWO BUZZARDS, 14 KITTENS, ONE WILD BUFFALO AND A COW!"
