Uhm...drinking vomit? Why?
« on: July 30, 2010, 04:14:11 am »

I just gave my dwarves an underground water source as a drinking zone. However

Why would he do that? Is there vomit in the underground water source? Or was it his last resort when he was very thirsty? In any case, I've never read that one before.

Maybe your brewer is so unskilled that your dwarves can`t tell vomit from beer.

"Hey, Urist, I'm really sick of drinking this same old booze again"

"I dig you, Geshud. You know.. You could try drinking my vomit for a change. I think it contains a fair amount of alcohol. In fact, I insist you try that, for Dwarven Science!"

"Geez Urist, that sounds rather disgusting, but okay, I'll try"

"Do it, now, Geshud!"

Semi-related, but, I had a spelunking adventurer that subsisted on eating Horse Spleens stolen from a human town and licking Crundle Blood off his own boots. Contaminant liquids remove the "Thirsty" and "Dehydrated" tag when you drink them... It's that amazing ☼Dwarven Liver☼ at work, I think. He also drank muddy water, water laced with mud, Jabberer Blood, and a few different kinds of Ichor from clowns. I'm fortunate that none of those last caused Clown Pox.

I'm guessing the water was contaminated, but if they'll drink vomit or blood rather than starving, then more power to them.

There really should be some notion of nutrition in dwarf fortress. Realistically, eating vomit should cause more problems than it solves, and the tiny amount of blood on a sword shouldn't do much to quench your thirst.

I still think that the whole fortress should be flooded with magma the moment you try dividing by zero.
This could be a handy way of teaching preschool children mathematics.

Well, there you have it. In a certain sense, yogurt is the physical waste of lactobacillus... though I'm not sure if that makes it vomitous or fecal. Either way, yogurt is good stuff, and benefits digestive health.

Antmen should definitely be able to share food like this, without negative thoughts. Maybe birds and birdmen should feed their young like this, too.

Pretty sure you need some kind of GI tract to have it count for either. But I'd tend towards 'waste product as a result of deriving nutrition/acquiring energy', which is more fecal in nature, as vomit is, by definition, something that wasn't fully digested and used to provide energy to the organism.

Two dwarves, one mug.

Now with the disturbing implication that it is not consensual!

But for a reall explanasion if you just gave them a new water source it could be that this though is  old(bad thoughs usually last for some time).
