So I did a bit of modding...
« on: July 29, 2010, 06:02:28 pm »

And made gold able to make weapons and armor. I thought it would be kewl late in my fortresses life to have my fortress guard in full gold studded armor with gold long swords. I also made platinum able to make weapons, I thought hey why not have some kick butt hammers. Turns out the goblins agreed with me, they have turned up with gold armor and platinum weapons for years now. My new Barons room is decked out with goblin melted armor furniture and a platinum coffin. He is very pleased. Also my hammer dwarves are enjoying there master work platinum warhammers.

There are few things as silly as solid gold armor... Gold swords are one of them.

Anyway, does that work out well at all even in DF these days?

Well if you remove the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag from dwarves I think they have like 2-4 children each time they give birth. And if you get enough mothers up on the pillars you can probably get a good waterfall going.

I knew it was going to be ridiculous gold is extremely soft. BUt hey this is DF creating massively expenisive suits of butter is kinda what we do. And it goes over about as you would expect the goblins drop like flies. Most of my deaths have involved the weather and my dwarves drowning.

Oh, I see nothing wrong with sending an army of inadequately armored dwarves to their glittery deaths. And it's actually better that the guards look pretty rather than be good at their job.

Exactly, then they get buried in my massive burial chamber/statue garden. They provide happiness with my fort, and the new captians of the guard get to look rich.

that sounds like a pretty good idea, so if you just add the appropriate tags to gold and platinum goblins will just decide to use the stuff?

Using gold armor for ceremonial reasons is actually a pretty cool idea...

I like it, nice job. Care to tell me what you did?

I always hoped for a platinum artifact hammer and never got one. Those should be rather effective as well as shiny.

gold hammers are really good. This is because hammers mostly use weight and gold is the heaviest (second to slate but that's not usable) material in df.

Actually, platinum is 10% heavier than gold, and twice as strong (impact yield, impact fracture).

I got a gold hammer artifact once. Gave it to my captain of the guard.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I always give my Captain something shiny. It's usually a helm, or boots though, not a weapon or armour that protects vital areas.

And the head isn't a vital area? Well, they're dwarves, but still...

Yeah, but imagine if his other eye gets blinded because of that. I mean, how awesome would it be to have a captain with an eyepatch?
