Trying this out
« on: July 28, 2010, 07:46:25 pm »

It was a small population of voters, but it was also a large majority, so we'll try this out.  I'm not sure what it'll be used for or if it is redundant, but you are welcome to use this space.  If it turns out to be unnecessary or unused, we'll simply delete it later.

Maybe it'll help fill up the wiki faster. Atm it's just at 62/100 complete or something like that.

Speaking of which, the combat section is still completely empty. There's not enough info about combat mechanics in DF2010 to add anything :<

I think it'd be good if we could get some tips and guides condensed and formed in here, then posted on the wiki. Such as tricks on how to use the military and perhaps a sort of quickstart guide.

I think I'll prefer this to cluttering/hiding stuff in individual discussion pages. Hard to know until we see it in action, of course, but I like the theory.

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

This could end up being a good center for myth-busteresque threads, rather than simply having one giant megathread dedicated to the job of testing speculations and inaccuracies on the wiki.  For example, some people are still saying that glass furniture is magma proof, but I've had a few incidents that show this might have changed in some way.

I definitely think that the forum is a good idea. It's a lot less effort to look at this forum than to seek out and read discussion pages on the wiki, and it lets people much more easily see what people are talking about.

OK, let's try some useful discussion.

I have been thinking that it would be nice to update the Character Table page (http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Character_table) to use the same white-on-purple monospaced font of the Tilesets page (http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Tilesets#What_tiles_are_used_for_what)

It might even be possible to come up with a decent template that does for both pages.

So, anyone got any suggestions/objections?

I think this could be a good idea, and the template you want is this:

http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Template:TST

Does that work?

Yes, I know about the TST template, I haven't tried it yet in the character table.
