You remorcefuly drop your grip of the Longinus and fly backwards as bone spikes explode out of Emmett's body towards you. They clatter together in the empty spot where you were. Emmett grabs ahold of the Longinus and smiles.
"It's not going to teleport back to you this time, is it?" she mocks.
You furrow your brow and glare at her. This... creature... is more than a demon. What is she? It may be time to strategically retreat.
You jump into the air, wait several seconds and then blip out of sight as several whips of blood lash in futility at the space you just left.
You remateralize miles away, just outside of the city. All of New York is still smoldering and orange. You clutch your head and sit down on the soft ground.
You were born several hundred years BC in the Roman Republic as a slave. You were beaten nearly every day you could remember before dying at the age of nine. Your soul was so pure that it was claimed by the "Angelus Primoris", the unnamed angel who is now known the world over as Lord God. He had rescued the souls of the three purest people he could find. Yours, that of a young warrior named Gabriel who had died on the battlefield, and that of a young political idealist named Michael who had recently been killed by a competitor. Primoris did not reveal himself other than the white and golden robes he wore over his entire body, obscuring any bit of skin that might have shown. He spoke without words, inside your hearts that he had grand plans set for the next three thousand years in order to cause every last human on Earth to ascend into heaven as an angel. He then tasked you three the task of raising an army of lesser angels to protect the realm of Earth from any harm, and gave you the power to save souls deemed "worthy". That was the last you ever saw of Primoris, but his actions continued on for hundreds of years, ending shortly after the man known as Jesus Christ was killed by the same Roman Empire you had been part of. Although you never saw him, it was His power that enabled human souls to be brought to heaven after they died. He was the one who created the shepherds and protectors of the Earth. It was He who gave you a second chance after your life was thrown away like trash.
And now you've failed Him.
You've failed to kill a single demon. A single hellish spawn, bent only on the absolute destruction of everything He desires.
Tears trickle down your hands and drop to the ground.
It's been two thousand years since you've cried. Since you've ever felt this human. You're unsure what to do. One of the very few holy artifacts in existance, entrusted to you, has now fallen into the hands of that accursed wretch.
