How to make things out of elf bones/goblin bones/kobold bones?

I just found out the hard way that rotting corpses don't explode into bone and chunks anymore. This is a problem, as two elf corpses are now cluttering my refuse stockpile after I dealt with an elf caravan by collapsing a ceiling on them.

You need to adjust civ ethics to allow for butchering of sentients.

Then you can get all of the elf tallow roasts you could ever eat, along with bones, skulls and leather.

Bummer. I used to shoot those goblins with masterful bolts made from the bones of their relatives  :'(

But yeah, I'm fairly certain that the only way to get bones out of that is to butcher the corpses/skeletons, and due to Dwarven Ethics that is currently impossible.
