I've noticed that dwarves in the current version are quite flimsy. There used to be a DAMBLOCK tag in the raws which gave them an arbitrary resistance to damage in order to simulate their thicker skin and stronger frame, but with the new raws there's really no need to simulate this when they can just have stronger bones, thicker skin e.t.c.

But they don't.

Dwarves in the current version are apparently just short, slow humans. They're made out of all the same materials, they're just shorter. I'm given to understand they now have a strength advantage over humans instead, but I can't find a raw entry supporting this. In unarmed combat, they almost always lose to an equally-skilled elf. This is wrong, WRONG I say!

I want to mod my dwarves to be a little bit tougher, but without breaking them completely. I was wondering if anyone in here has played with this kind of thing already, and has any 'good' values I can use. I want a dwarf with stronger bones and thicker skin, but NOT one able to deflect a ballista arrow with his face.

   Attributes for dwarves are still described in terms of the median value below, but the actual game effects are altered according to the raw numbers.  The numbers are different percentile values.  1000 is the human median for all attributes, so dwarven strength, for instance, has a higher median of 1250, although they suffer from their smaller size.

Edit: I should note that the current training in 31.12 seem to boost toughness by a LOT.

One of my most experienced dwarves has
3300 strength
1775 agility
4474 toughness
3664 endurance

And that is in an unmodded game.
