little help with editing the raws?
« on: July 27, 2010, 06:19:31 pm »

Gday, im trying to mod the raws so I can tame some of the polar bears and whatnot I have in my animal stockpile.       I changed [PET_EXOTIC] to be [PET] for the creatures I want but nothing is coming up in the kennels.

What is the obvious thing I am missing

These two tags set who can train the animal
[PET] can train in a kennel
[PET_EXOTIC] require a dungeon master to train

These tags set what can be trained
[TRAINABLE] can train as a war or hunting animal (if you have the required traininer)

So to train a war animal in a kennel without a dungeon master you need
[PET]
[TRAINABLE]

I have taken my polar bears and changed [pet_exotic] to [pet] as stated, not worried about wartraining yet, I just want to train the beasties without the dungeon master.  Do I need to gen a new world?

They are also still mount_exotic as well? is this an issue, im sort of grasping at straws here

Are you changing the raws in raw/objects or in your save? All saves now have their own raw/objects folder that will also need to be updated, otherwise you won't see the changes in your existing world.

Ahhhhhhh.   Yup something simple I missed.  Thankee for the help peoples.

Will this work with stuff that has killed my dwarves (and so been named), invaders animals and importantly werewolves?

If named creatures function the same as they used to then taming them after they have killed dwarves will result in a creature that is treated as a tamed creature (i.e. is not attacked by guards, can walk over traps without triggering them, etc.) but still acts hostile, attacking dwarves. This is a very bad thing.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

yeah, ive had this happen in older versions.  Not nice at all.  Im just not game to stuff around too much with this fort.   6 years in on the haunted tundra and going strong

edit.
The invader cave crocodile was tamed and then still regarded as hostile to my dwarves, it fought with wardogs before my military turned up and hacked it to bits.

Chalk that one up for science.
