I'm setting up a temporary fresh map. The original is safe and is being backed up as well.

We'll see what happens when the temporary runs for 24 hours or so. Feel free to trash the temp map.

The current world is 127 MiB, probably more than a thousand chunks.

This is just a test of the server software. It is not permanent.

How has the performance been in comparison to the large map?

Just keep in mind that a big update is coming that will change the map format an increase performance.
