I suppose, but I was trying to build a castle & keep in the shape of an irregular pentagon on the coast with each point represented by a tower and big walls between the towers with the entire thing surrounded by a moat. I haven't gotten far due to the gazillion creepers making my life hell, so I've given up and I'm going to something else. Maybe some DF or shock horror maybe something productive.

They're just trying to help you build your moat.

Try building a temporary wall 3 blocks tall around your build site and put tons of torches inside the wall. Should keep the hostile mobs out. If you want to make the wall better make it out of cacti. If that's still not enough surround the cacti wall with fire. If that's not enough add lava.

You're a dwarf, start over engineering like one.
