Is there any rules for here? the last server I played on was anti-exploring, which made it hard to get stuff.

What? Anti-exploring? Are there anti-mining, or no chat, or maybe some kind of craftless server?

Sizeak is right. In fact, we have a (now working) install of llamacraft, which prevents fires from lighters and magma. We've had problems with forest fires before.

Well, technically it was a size limit.
Something about lagging when the map got too big, and exploring making it bigger, and not wanting to trim the map all the time.
Anti-exploring just sounded simpler to say, sorry.

I can only guess the "No exploring" rule was more that you weren't allowed explore the edges so that the server wouldn't overload... but to my knowledge admins are capable of setting boarders.

Well I built a small cruddy bridge from Bamboo Island to the mainland (and glass dome island) but I still have no idea what I am doing or where to build.

Heck I am not even sure what Trees I am allowed to chop (I try to stay away from ones with torches) so I plant sapplings where I see it needs one.

never saw the server stop working unnanounced, so I doubt that was it.

The next magma moat is dug out and mostly smoothed.  The next step is to mark out the borders of plateau 3.
