Fire all over the place. Fixing.

Sorry!!!

Derekristow and I rebuilt the nomesphere's outer rings.  I thought I'd improve it with lava-falls on the outside

...which lit nearby trees on fire  :-[

I feel like that guy who burned his house down while making a video of how to light a fireplace.

(I should mention Derekristow had nothing to do with this).

How bad is the fire damage PTTG?

Well, I killed the server, but the lag from the huge numbers of fire hurt it.

I'll see how it can be fixed.

I just mean I don't feel like building until the new map's up, that's all.

I thought fire was disabled?

This is a beautiful server guys. :) Good job. I'll join you when I can, and whenever someone's on, but yeah. Here's a quick question; Are you paying for the no-ip.org deal? I go to that site and it redirects me to no-ip.com and tries to sell me some bullcrap.
You're supposed to enter that into the ip box in Minecraft.

... Thank you, but I knew that. I was asking PTTG if he had to pay for his dynamic DNS service. I was trying to find a viable option for my own Minecraft server, but I didn't want to pay for it. Turns out I found a good one with DynDNS.com.

And I can't believe the world caught on fire...! That's crazy! I'm glad I logged in not even an hour before it happened. Unless I saw the pre-fire backup? If so, I'm even more impressed, because the world is still huge the way it is.

I was asking PTTG if he had to pay for his dynamic DNS service.

Last I checked the basic dynamic DNS part of no-ip was free. They obviously try and get you to sign up for their paid plans (which give you a non-"no-ip.com/org" address) but I think the basic one + their program to auto-update your IP if it changes is free.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Yeah, No-ip is free for the basic service. I want to get it to just be planehacked.com- I already bought the domain- but that costs money.

I have an elegantish solution for ya! Who did you buy the domain from? Because right now my server is minecraft.<domainName>.com But you could even have MC.planehacked.com or something. Most domain registrars let you forward subdomains to other IPs.

My setup is this: you type in minecraft.<domain>.com which points to <domain>-minecraft.dyndns.com which points to my computer.

It's pretty workaround-y but it works!

I think I know what you're saying. In fact, I could probably take No-IP out of the loop entirely; my IP remains stable for very long periods of time, so I'd just need to update it very rarely... maybe.

Did anyone build anything on the server before the fire? I might just re-load the same backup.

On that note, you might actually be able to redirect the domain straight to your ip so you COULD just use planehacked.com

In GoDaddy all you'd have to change is the listing for "@" in the DNS settings
