[Humor]
If (reader != Japa)

Yeah, at least I don't unconsciously make my lines
have a little rhyme scheme to them like I did for a
while. Now that was annoying even for me to read.
Also the only constraint once you open up building
there is how big a platform you want to make. That
is why I suggested just asking people not to build
there unless necessary. That way people will go and
build stuff there that is awesome but keep the regular
stuff on the mainline.

If you could just keep it like this from now on I'd be ever so grateful.

One chunk wide, infinitely long. A void to either side.

I figure it should be interesting.

Nice idea, but I'd rather we keep at least one sort-of vanilla server around. I'd be fine with that being the Sandbox server, but the problem is that Bukkit&co aren't enabled there. :I

Ah, but it is constraining. you can't realistically build that far out from the line, really, and it will largely dictate the types of structures we build.

And the way you type... makes me pause... at the end of each line.... and it gets really ... annoying.

The main constraint is that you only have one chunk's width of space to get raw materials from. The space constraint is secondary, and I think being able to build over the void would lead to some really cool architecture.

It looks like it will simply delete the extra chunks, leaving the blank spaces free for overhangs. Still, I'd encourage players to explore linearly and to feel free to build things right up to the edge and leave them, as if they continue. This would be appropriate for a sidescroller.

The plan is to have this be the Open server and keep the Project server as a place for all large-scale projects.

I like that plan. Just asking people to not build in
the void unless necessary will probably work perfectly
well on the server.

Also on the limited resource thing, the limit is time
taken by travel not materials. Infinite is still infinite
even if its just a slice of a bigger infinite.

Will there ever be people on the project server again...?

I think we should consider an in-game claim system. Put a sign in an empty block you want to claim, and then come back in a day and you can start building. What say, lordnincompoop?

Sizeak,
It will keep being more of an empty place until N@W
finally starts at which point it will envy ghost towns
for their consistent population. After N@W ends give
it a few weeks for people to recover and it will slowly
come back to its former glory.

This is why I hate N@W. Hate hate hate.

I also hate you a little for saying it. It sounds like you're trying to discourage people from participating. >:I

It isn't a problem with the claim system or of convenience, PTTG. It's a problem of interest.
There really isn't a lot to lose when it comes to Project activity, which is why I suggested the outing.

I still try to go on the project server, sizeak.

I am fine with that claiming system, personally.

I loathe N@W for what it has done to the server.

The problem with the sidescroller is that you can't really outline it completley as it's (almost) infinitly long. You could split it up into chunks and then players can claim multiple chunks at the number along the world (eg. Chunk 16 or -25).

If we plan to spread out a bit then we should probably
develop a rail system in one of the voids. Not only would
this be an easy fast transit system but also a way to
view how everyone is doing easily.

What? No, it'll be a mod that adds the walls when they are generated.

Nope. That's an underground system.

I think we should have a continuous rail-line that goes either on the surface, underground, or through the air, depending on the discretion of the person building that section. People should be encouraged to incorporate the line into their designs.

That's quite a good idea
