Delete Key creates Triangles

Whenever I enter text, hitting the delete key results in the creation of a little triangle with no text deleted.  This has been a problem since a started dwarf fortress but has never been an issue until DF2010 with burrows that need naming.

Im on a small laptop keyboard playing 31.12 with mayday installed if it helps.

Known issue with the OSX version - go into the key bindings screen and rebind the backspace key.
