I'm glad I started playing it on hard (I generally play games on normal because I figure that's the difficulty the developers balanced the game for, their idea of an 'optimal' experience.) I think if fighting were any easier I'd be enjoying the game less, and all the upgrades and gear wouldn't be as useful. I guess I'm about 50%+ through the game at this point, and I've only died 4 times. (2 times if you count the ones where I simply had nothing left.) The lack of quicksave/quickload is still pretty annoying. The game has the irritating habit of respawning you in the line of fire sometimes.

I'm enjoying it, about as much as I've enjoyed all the Bioshock games. Although this one is certainly the best looking. I'll certainly finish it before moving on to something else, something I can't say of a lot of games. 1999 Mode is also kind of sounding like Dark Souls level of difficulty, which sounds sort of appealing for another playthrough.

I just got this and agree its far too easy.

Im maybe an hour in and killed 40+ enemy and still not died.  Thats with meleeing most of them even when they have guns lol, on hard.

There is something in me that dislikes it whenever I have to put a game to hard just to essentially play it on "normal"

I don't know why.

The game is 'ok' so far, but I'm finding the combat more annoying than hard; enemies shooting you through fog you can't see through, and soooo muuuuch screen shaking making it literally impossible to aim. it's like the main character is a bobblehead.

(wait, is that the twist?)

I literally figured out if I maxed my shield, and used the nice quick recharge boots I got with the vampire pants I could just mele everything to death, then I got charge and a nice fire mele hat and well I was nuking people left and right... its just silly.

Finished the game. T'was pretty great! Amazing atmosphere, even more well-done than in the first game (especially before everything goes to hell). I liked the story and Elizabeth was a nice character and companion. Combat was alright, though I never used some of the abilities or weapons at all and it could've used a bit more variety in the battlefields.

Spoiler-wise;

EDIT: I'm very much left wanting for more, though. Goddamnit, Levine.

Yeah, still looking for my Heart after it lept out of my chest...

Personally, hated that level...
Ran out of ammo within seconds...
Took me a bit to realize that you have to sneak around. The Following stage was even more annoying considering that I had only half a clip of a Handgun to fight everyone who had good armour on too...

I'm finding combat pretty balanced compared to the original, given that halfway through the game you could go all Emperor Palpatine on a Big Daddy with the chemical thrower and kill the hardest non-boss enemy with literally no chance of it fighting back.  To say nothing of decoy, big daddy hypnotism, the ridiculous amounts of health and ammo you could end up with...
