I'm not particularly happy with the way DF seems to be going, with magic going in and steampunk being left out.

Steampunk is just about the most overplayed thing in the universe at this point. You're essentially complaining about someone not building a swamp in Louisiana.

Actually, grimdark fantasies are the most overplayed thing ever...  The damn blood god has enough blood already, thanks.

Like I said a little ways back, DF is about customizing for the player, so if there's the raws for both magic and steampunk available, then everyone will be happy cause they can just get a mod to suit their personal interests.

I do think that some kind of prostatics would be nice. However this would probably require a prostatic for just about every limb this is for both the description and the fact that you might need diffrend matials. (wood iron mechanism or pig tail)

Okay, that too. DF doesn't need to be WarCraft or Warhammer 40,000.

Add a "Wind" function that would have to be performed by another dwarf on a timer similar to eat and drink. Oh! And a key item that must be used to do it. You want a cyborg superdwarf army? Fine. Hope that siege doesn't last too long, because those guys need winding on a regular basis.

Urist McFartypants: HURRY OH GOD HOW IT BURNS!

Urist McFartypants has been struck down.

I would definitely support this.

Perhaps a masterwork mechanism would be needed, or a masterwork mechanism would be needed if you didn't want your prosthetic limb to malfunction horribly.
Maybe to balance it out, prosthetic parts hit in battle hard enough could break them?
Or regular maintenance?

Seems a fairly simple thing though.

you can't make a prosthetic hand for someone missing a finger

I don't see why not. If there's too little of the limb missing, chopping off more to make the prosthetic fit is a very simple solution, and IMO quite a dwarfy thing to do as well.

But yeah, I do like the suggestion. I'm not particularly happy with the way DF seems to be going, with magic going in and steampunk being left out. Ever since I played Morrowind I've thought steampunk dwarves are the best kind. They already go crazy with all kinds of mechanical contraptions, so it seems a natural direction to take them in.

SteampunkAdvanced item creation and Dwarves are like Peas in a pod in my opinion as well, and I do hope that when eventually comes and the magic system arrives, there will be the ability for races to be more affiniated with certain magic, and item centric magic(putting the real zing in that artifact) being one of the possible end-effects.

On the topic the OP opened with, I would like for there to be a way for my dwarves to not have to crawl eventually, with better quality mechanisms making for a more seamless transition from dwarf to legless dwarf. As it is, if your dwarf survives the amputation, he now is crawling. Forever.

Prosthetics, no matter what format they arrive in, be it magic steampunk arm, magic clockpunk arm, magic arm, or steel armor uncomfortably fitted onto a stump that can somewhat be manipulated to hold light objects, I eagerly await it's arrival.

I fall on the steampunk side of this debate. I know Toady (Armok be with him) isn't going to put it in vanilla, but mechanical arms aren't particularly steampunky anyway. Leonardo Da Vinci, whose life was half in the time frame Toady (Armok be with him) has specified, had designed a fully working automata that, while not impressive by modern day standards, was definitely advanced enough that the very same mechanisms could have been used to give a disabled person a degree of use that most modern day disabled people would envy.

He never ended up building it and it's pretty expensive, but the point stands.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

What I'd like to see is the option of making simple weapon prosthetics.

Urist McMilitary got his wrist cut off by the goblins? Well, the next time they arrive, they will be met by the bloodthirsty Urist AxeHand.
Or if tools are ever added, Urist McCarpenter who suffered a terrible accident becomes Urist McSaw  :D

Hell we might not even need mechanisms. I mean wood stuffed into a boot, and stuck on like a stump leg. Would be indecipherable besides the limp, and probably make you happier. It wouldnt give you back much more functionality then a crutch but it still seems legitimate to me.
