Something similar happened to me in 40, Due to modding dogs gave birth to way to many animals for my poor FPS to handle, So I ordered about 40 to be tossed into the volcano most burned about ten survived and clustered near the wall for about a month before I made a ramp to let them out, they were tossed in the animal pit with the rest of the forts animals, one refused to move so I crushed it, next time I loaded that fort all the puppy's spontaneously combusted leaving my animal pit filled with the half melted remains of the entire population of livestock. >:(
