It's kind of a goofy cheesefest whose acting is a mixed bag, but after struggling through the first episode of Cobra Kai at a friend's semi-recommendation, episode two got me HYPED AS HECK right from the start. I mean, it's still a goofy cheesefest with some seriously questionable acting at times, but the premise is just so oddly exciting and I think they're starting to really pull it off. Things are really falling into place.
Just gotta remember not to take it too seriously, I guess.
And here I came wanting to write about it. I started watching it because I was bored and ended up binging both seasons in the same day. Maybe it was just the fatigue from watching it in one go but I find the first season to be the better one, mainly because the focus is more on the characters' development and their day to day struggles instead of their "karate based rivalries".
I also have to say that I really like the (main) characters, they aren't the regular clear cut bad or good guys, they feel quite realistic with their ideals and their pitfalls.
Special mention for the character of Amanda LaRusso (Daniel's wife), which to my knowledge, is the best depiction of a wife/strong woman in modern media. She is smart, supportive, loving, successful and doesn't take nonsense from anyone (including her husband). And all that without the plague of having to scream "girl power", cause she doesn't have to prove that she is strong. She IS strong.
